Early Childhood Education Critical to Children, State's Economy
Gov. Edwards has proclaimed February to be Louisiana Early Education Month to focus awareness on this important issue among the business community, policymakers, families and advocacy groups. In celebration, United Way of Southeast Louisiana hosted an event last week at the Little Red Schoolhouse in Covington. CEO Lacey Osborne and Board Chairman David Landry attended the event which included a tour of the center for a firsthand perspective of what high-quality early childhood education looks like, the challenges providers and families face, and the importance of supporting child-care providers for Louisiana’s working families. Special Session Focuses on Insurance

Following is an update about the recent special legislative session that we received from Senator Beth Mizell. “The legislature had a special session because of the need of Louisiana's property owners to find affordable insurance. After much deliberation, which involved hours of questioning the insurance commissioner, we settled on a plan that has oversight and accountability. It's not everything we wanted, but it's a start that our property owners around the state desperately need. I expect other bills to be filed during the regular session to bring about some long-term improvements on this issue.” Click here to read more.
