🌻Don't miss the rare opportunity to view unique new media art works at house 7b, Nolan Park.
Taiwan is a creative new technology island, full of rich history and culture. This July to early August, TAAC brings you three new media exhibitions indoors and outdoors: (1) Pey-Chwen Lin(林珮淳), creates an Eve Clone that merges with world leaders which talk in various languages at the same time that make the dialogue impossible to understand and become babel.
The southern Taiwan city of Tainan is 400 years old this year. It thus shares some history with New York, since in 1624 the Dutch founded New Amsterdam, and in the same year the Dutch colonized Taiwan and made Tainan their trading post. (2) Chin-Hsiang Hu/Peppercorns (胡縉祥/黑川新媒体團隊)exhibits Between the mountains and Seas, a history of Taiwan and Tainan. (3) while two young new media artists, Ching-Yi Chuang and Chun-Kai Yang (莊慶怡&楊鈞凱) depict the high-tech Taiwan of TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor) and use projection to turn their drawing into an island in motion with sinister overtones.
Also, come see a display of innovative fiber art by Yu-Jei Yen (閻昱潔) which bears the concept and trace of war that are latent in work at house 7b. Don't miss this rare opportunity to view these unique art works.

Eve Clone Babel I, 2023
3D animation, digital sound effects, ancient images, dancers,
and images from Google Maps
Run time: 4:06 mins, looped
Music: Zong Chiang
Animation Digital image and editing: Ko-Chien Wang, Bo-Wei Wu
Dancer of motion capture system: Ching-Cong Lin
Lin combined 2D images, 3D models, ancient drawings, images of buildings, digitized sound, and motion capture results from dance performances. Her final result was an image of Eve Clone, at first standing
atop the Tower of Babel, then as a wire-framed computer image cavorting in dance while an eerie atmosphere builds in the background. The artist is objecting to the
use of technology to challenge God; an attempt that was symbolized in the Bible
by the Tower of Babel and today by the continual advances in digital technology.

Eve Clone Wannsee, 2024
3D animation, AI Software, photos, YouTube Videos
Running time: 5 mins, looped
AI images and Editing: Chin-Hsiang Hu, Bo-Wei Wu
To commemorate the Wannsee conference where the Nazis formulated a decision
to eliminate the Jews and other minorities, the artist picked 28 world celebrities, such as Kim from North Korea, Lenin and Putin from Russia, Xi Jin Ping from China, and Chiang
Kai-Shek of China and later Taiwan. Lin uses AI and other advanced computer technologies to merge the faces of these figures with the image of Eve Clone,
branding them with 666 to demonstrate the artist’s evaluation of them. She then
used more AI techniques to animate these faces, so each is making a speech that
they actually gave. But these speeches are unintelligible because all 28 figures are speaking at the same time – except at the end when the Devil speaks through the original Eve Clone.

Chin Hsiang Hu (胡縉祥) of Peppercorns Interactive new media (黑川互動新媒体藝術) "Between Mountains and Seas", 6 meters x 2 meters (H) LED transparent screen, LED light tube, smoke machine, Control system, speakers, 7' 35"
The Between Mountains and Seas installation presents a chapter in the history of Taiwan, in particular the representation of said history via the change in the waterscape of Tainan over time. These changes were initiated by the Dutch who in 1624 colonized the country and made Tainan their trade entrepot in Taiwan. Also in 1624, the Dutch founded a colony they called New Amsterdam, (now New York) so the link between two islands (Manhattan and Taiwan) was time and a European country at the height of its power.

Pey-Chwen Lin uses 3D animation to create a hybrid female figure combining human, cocoon, and beast elements, critiquing humanity's attempt to imitate God by using technology to clone artificial life. She refers to this species as Eve Clone. In addition to having an enticing face and ideal body proportions, her forehead and right hand are inscribed with the number "666." In the Bible's Book of Revelation (13:16-18), "666" is the beast's mark, symbolizing how technological clones created by humanity are dangerous products.
The exhibition features the film "Eve Clone Babel I," which has won awards at international film festivals. This film uses a motion capture system to combine the movements of "Eve Clone" with those of a real dancer, showcasing her proud and enticing movements on the top of the Tower of Babel and within a hybrid city constructed with Google Maps . Another piece, "Eve Clone Wannsee Conference," uses AI software like AI lip sync D-ID to bring Eve Clone to life as various authoritative figures. This references how these figures in politics, technology, and culture, like "Eve Clone" on the Babel Tower, arrogantly express their desires and plans.
Eve Clone is a recurring figure in Pey-Chwen Lin’s art and an unholy product of 3-D computer animation and associated digital technology. The wire frame and skeleton, VU texture mapping, and pattern engraving not only serve as documentation but also underline how Eve Clone is a digital product of human desire.

A Gigantic Taiwan Mobile Platform:Towards the Path of Freedom Needle pen sketch on paper, 43 x 87 inches, animation mapping projection, digital sound effect, 1.27 min video looped, 2024
A map of Taiwan becomes a mechanized object that includes skyscrapers and factories – especially microchip plants. Then motion transforms a two-dimensional paper sketch into a kinetic image. The concept of transforming Taiwan into a large, movable platform challenges the current geopolitical situation. By employing speculative design logic, the project explores the foundations and potential impacts of setting Taiwan in motion. Through a combination of short animations and illustrations, interacting with the exhibition space, this concept is vividly presented to the audience.

Island Sunrise captures the optimism of new beginnings on islands and illustrates the theme of "Connecting Islands." It embodies the spirit of voyages between islands, such as the journey from Taiwan to Governors Island. In it, artists will explore various historical contexts of island life. Island Sunrise begins by examining five youth-led movements in “Peoples’ Movements: Sunflower 10th Anniversary,” showcasing the art of 11 artists and one art collective. From June to the end of October, House 7b will feature various exhibitions, installations, and events from a diverse range of artists in studio residency each month. This dynamic program, with periodically changing exhibitions, will present different perspectives on art as it relates to life on an island. A selection of art from “Peoples’ Movements: Sunflower 10th Anniversary” will be on display in House 7B until the end of October, commemorating Island Sunrise and influencing all other exhibitions held there.
