Spotlight on a Community Agency:

The AIDS Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador (ACNL) is a provincial organization operating out of the Tommy Sexton Centre in Pleasantville, St. John’s, and has an office in Corner Brook as well. ACNL is committed to preventing the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C, and all of our programs are targeted to anyone living with, at risk of, or affected by either disease – which means everyone.
Because unsafe housing and homelessness put individuals at a high risk for poor health outcomes, we have a four bed, low barrier emergency shelter for adults (ages 16 and up) and six supportive housing apartments on site. Our shelter has residential counsellors working 24/7 to help people connect with supports and landlords, move forward successfully out of homelessness, and stay successful after they move. ACNL also operates the Safe Works Access Program (SWAP) – access to safer drug use and safer sex supplies in office, at our satellite sites, through outreach delivery, or through mail-out service. We also have an HIV and Hep C services program, which includes public and professional education to reduce stigma and dispel myths about HIV and Hep C, as well as provides counselling, resource linkage, and individualized supports for anyone living with, at risk of, or affected by HIV or Hep C.
To learn more, please visit us on facebook, check out our website, or contact Abigail at 709-579-8656 or asheppard@acnl.net.
