NYGHoops Report got a chance to speak to Cardinal Spellman's rising senior W/F Maria Backman last night about her recruiting.

"These schools are what's left: Michigan, Georgetown, Yale, Virginia tech, St. John's, NC Stat, Boston College, Auburn, Rutgers, Fordham UCF, ECU, Providence, Hofstra, Delaware."

"My goal is to get it down to 10 by June and 5 by July. To afford schools the opportunity to select other student-athletes; I've visited Yale, St. John's, and Fordham, I plan on visiting VTech and Georgetown this June."

"What I'm looking for in schools is great academics, great alumni, coaching security, a school that plays up-tempo and likes to push the ball."

St John's- Love Coach Joe (Joe Tartamella) and Coach Pee (Priscilla Edwards) swag. It's another school that affords me the opportunity of staying close to home but also playing for a great program; With great opportunity of playing in the big dance (NCAA Tournament) Overall great school.

Yale- Everything that I expected and more; the academics at Yale are phenomenal they offer so much on and especially off the court; the alumni and connections they have are superb, overall a great experience, head coach and staff are great, we're in communication often.

Fordham- Coach Gaitley and staff were great, made the transition from high school to college feel easy. We're very welcoming and showed the perks and opportunities of staying close to home.
