Happy New Year!

Now that we're settling into 2022, I thought this would be a great time to develop a new health habit. "Who do you wish to become this year?" asks James Cleary, author of Atomic Habits. This year my intention is to support my patients in achieving amazing results with their health by making tiny changes that lead to huge benefits! This book has given me insight into how I can help you implement small changes in your health systems instead of only writing the goal. Planning out the HOW, not only what and why.

"You don't rise to the level of your goals; you fall to level of your systems."

As you go through your day, ask yourself, "What are the great habits I'm already doing? How can I easily enhance them? What are habits that no longer help me in 2022?" 1% changes adds up to significant results! Maybe it's something simple, such as booking your acupuncture visits several weeks ahead, or organizing your supplements, or getting a new water filter. What simple step will save you time and energy later?

Identity-Based Habits (from Atomic Habits)

The key to building lasting habits is focusing on creating a new identity first. Your current behaviors are simply a reflection of your current identity. What you do now is a mirror image of the type of person you believe that you are (either consciously or subconsciously).

To change your behavior for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself. You need to build identity-based habits. Imagine how we typically set goals. We might start by saying “I want to lose weight” or “I want to get stronger.” If you're lucky, someone might say, “That's great, but you should be more specific.”
So then you say, “I want to lose 20 pounds” or “I want to squat 300 pounds.”
These goals are centered around outcomes, not identity.

To understand what I mean, consider that there are three levels at which change can occur. You can imagine them like the layers of an onion.
