The South Carolina State Library's K-12 website for South Carolina students has expanded!

StudySC is a website that provides online content to support South Carolina-specific curriculum standards. StudySC, created by the South Carolina State Library, makes available a student-friendly environment arranged by grade level and by subject area where students can find the information they need fast.

Each grade level in StudySC now features a History After 1865 section that includes information for K-12 students on Reconstruction politics, life in the textile mills, local and national civil rights activists, and life in the modern "New South."
  • Reconstruction
  • Industrialization
  • WWI & the Jazz Age
  • Great Depression & WWII
  • Civil Rights
  • Modern Era
  • South Carolina Places & Photographs

Conference Visits

I had a great time letting people know about StudySC at the South Carolina Library Association Conference and EdTech in October. Both the librarian and educator audiences had useful comments, questions, and suggestions to take back to the State Library.

I am looking forward to the South Carolina School Librarian Association conference here in Columbia in March!

South Carolina Book Awards
South Carolina Book Awards

StudySC now features the 2010-2011 South Carolina Book Awards hosted by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. This section features the latest book award nominees in a kid-friendly environment, showcasing the content created by SCASL members, a picture of each book, and vetted web links to added content.

For each book, there is a picture, short description, and links to added information such as author biographies, book reviews, additional activities, and interviews as available. Come explore the South Carolina Book Awards at StudySC!

StudySC Glossary
South Carolina Glossary

Ever wondered what an atlatl was? How about a scalawag? Now you can look up South Carolina-related words in StudySC's brand new glossary! Students can find definitions for terms and concepts like the Upcountry, soybean, or boycott.

Also, every page has a picture for one of the definitions. All definitions are in the creative commons or public domain and available for reuse in projects or assignments.

As South Carolina educators, librarians, and content specialists, we want your input! Please let us know if the content in StudySC is appropriate and/or useful and if there are gaps in subject areas that need to be addressed. Also, if you know of any other resources that should be included in these subjects, please forward them on. StudySC is not a static website but one that will be updated and changed as new resources are available.

Thank you so much for your support of StudySC and I look forward to your comments and questions.

Sincerely,

Amanda Stone
