New in 2024! New Jersey Natural Gas
Energy Outreach Technical Assistance

Help residents and businesses in your municipality learn about New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) programs that provide funding for energy efficiency upgrades. Sustainable Jersey is expanding energy technical assistance in the NJNG service territory to include technical assistance engagements that guide municipalities through completing either a residential or commercial energy efficiency outreach campaign.
Program participants will receive:
- Technical assistance to plan and implement a residential or commercial energy efficiency outreach campaign
- Customized outreach materials (program signage, social media graphics, ect.) to support the outreach campaign
Interested municipalities should fill out an Interest Form here.
Participating in this program can help municipalities earn points in the Commercial Energy Efficiency Outreach, Energy Assistance Outreach, and Residential Energy Efficiency Outreach actions.

NJBPU Community Energy Planning Grants

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) application deadline for the Community Energy Planning Grant program is May 24, 2024. | |

The NJBPU is accepting applications for two community energy planning grants:
- Community Energy Planning Grants: Up to $25K for municipalities to identify and plan energy initiatives for the community.
- Community Energy Plan Implementation Grants: Up to $250K for municipalities that have completed Community Energy Plans or equivalent plans to implement initiatives included in the plan.
Sustainable Jersey technical assistance is available to assist with grant applications and the creation of community energy plans. Visit the Sustainable Jersey Community Energy Planning page for more information about both the planning and implementation grants and to apply. Municipalities that complete community energy plans can receive points in the Community Energy Plan or Climate Action Plan action.

- $5k grants can be used for environmental stewardship or resiliency projects.

Senior Program Manager for Schools
The Senior Program Manager for Schools will be responsible for leading the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program. This will include working with other senior staff to develop strategy and set priorities for growing the program, conducting applied research and program design tasks, managing contracts, developing program content and overseeing quality, managing and building relationships with funders and program partners, and managing a team of professionals on a range of operational, outreach, professional development, and research projects. NJCEP’s Electric Vehicle Funding Programs
Currently available electric vehicle funding programs from New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program:
Incentives for Municipalities, Schools, Commercial, and Non-Profits

Clean Fleet Electric Vehicle Incentive Program - Incentives for electric fleet vehicles and EV charging equipment for school districts and municipalities. Applications will be accepted until funds are expended.

EV Tourism Program - Incentives for EV charging equipment at tourist locations such as boardwalks, parks, and other unique attractions, as well as overnight lodging establishments. Deadline: May 30, 2024.

Multi-Unit Dwelling Electric Vehicle Charging Program - Incentives for EV charging equipment at eligible multi-unit dwellings including apartments, condominiums, or mixed residential locations that have a minimum of five units and dedicated off-street parking. Applications will be accepted until funds are expended.

Funding for Municipalities Working to Improve Community Health

U.S. EPA Funding for Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles
The Inflation Reduction Act allocates $1 billion for the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program. This
program funds:
- Incremental cost of replacing Class 6/7 heavy-duty vehicle with an eligible zero-emission vehicle
- Purchase and installation of refueling infrastructure
- Driver/mechanic training
- Costs for project contractual services, consulting
Applications are due on July 25, 2024. Visit EPA’s webpage for more information. These incentives can help municipalities earn points in the Purchase Alternative Fuel Vehicle action.

Energy Efficiency: Free Audits and Financial Incentives for
New Construction
New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) offers incentives to municipalities and local businesses for choosing energy efficient equipment on new construction and substantial renovation projects. Municipalities also have the opportunity to get started with a free energy audit through the Local Government Energy Audit Program (LGEA).
Congratulations to the 51 municipalities that received their free audit in the past 6 years!
