Hillside Elementary School Long-Time Custodian Retires

Hillside Elementary School's long-time head custodian, Mr. William “Space” Clover, retired last week after 38 years at the school. For his last walk through the building, he was surprised as students and staff came out of their classrooms to thank him with high-fiving, cheering and clapping. Each class made a special poster to share their congratulations and gratitude. "Mr. Clover’s deep knowledge of Hillside and concern for the students will be missed. We wish him all the very best and for some much-deserved relaxation in his retirement," stated Hillside Elementary School principal Michele Staves.

T/E Middle School Bulldog Ambassadors Help Show the Way

Stepping into a new middle school for the first time can be intimidating whether the individual is an incoming fifth grader, a new student from a different school, or even a parent who has not been in the building before. Luckily, at T/E Middle School, the Bulldog Ambassadors are available to help and provide guidance.

The Bulldog Ambassadors are a group of student leaders who are supported by Wendi Wilson, science teacher at TEMS. The group is made up of seventh and eighth grade students who serve in a variety of roles within the school. At the beginning of the school year, the group has twelve initial members from each grade. Over the course of the year, more ambassadors may be added.

The ambassadors lead tours of the school for all fourth graders and for new students who visit over the summer. On curriculum nights and parent/teacher conferences, the ambassadors help direct parents to the correct classrooms. Throughout the school year, the ambassadors participate in training sessions to develop and practice skills that will support their school community.

In addition to supporting TEMS, the ambassadors also run a cleaning supply drive. They visit homerooms and talk with students about the service project and items that are needed in the local community. Ms. Wilson is hoping to include more service activities as part of the Bulldog Ambassadors program. T/E Middle School is grateful for its Bulldog Ambassadors and the support they provide to the TEMS community.
