New Inspection Guidelines for Commercial Projects

are coming into effect April 29, 2024

New Inspection Guidelines for Commercial Projects are coming into effect April 29, 2024. These new guidelines address the process, procedures, and the order for obtaining final inspection approvals for the construction of commercial buildings.

Changes to the inspection process are aimed at limiting delays and extra expenses for customers at a critical time in a project, which is the final approval. Furthermore, the update will improve overall consistency by helping all stakeholders to prepare for inspections, address compliance issues, improve communications, and customer expectations.

Please see the Commercial Building Final Inspection Order and Flowchart, which includes field inspections procedures, commercial inspection codes, common inspection issues and contact information. When scheduling construction final inspections for commercial buildings, all building and trade permit concealment inspections must be approved or have a partial approval disposition.

To schedule an inspection please use www.pwcgov.org/ePortal or call the automated scheduling system on 1-866-457-5280. To schedule Fire Marshal’s Office inspections please call (703) 792-6360.

For more information, contact the Inspections Office at (703) 792-7006, between 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Mon – Fri, or the Fire Marshal’s Office at (703) 792-6360, between 8:00am - 5:00pm Mon – Fri. Alternatively, please email BDDInspections@pwcgov.org at any time.
