New Colorado Springs City Council Sworn In, Mayoral Runoff News, Drake Demolition Meeting, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • A mayoral runoff debate, between candidates Wayne Williams and Yemi Mobolade, will be livestreamed on Sunday, April 30th

  • The Martin Drake Power Plant in downtown Colorado Springs will soon be demolished. A public meeting was held this week to discuss potential impacts of this activity, and we recorded it for you to watch if you were unable to attend.

  • Former Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers has joined a Colorado law firm as a shareholder. This firm, among other things, specializes in lobbying government.

  • The El Paso County Board of Commissioners will kick off redistricting efforts this week.

  • El Paso County Clerk Steve Schleiker would like cameras at ballot drop-off boxes. Is there some malfeasance going on, or is this a general concern?

  • If you live near Black Forest, get ready to have 450 new homes developed in your neighborhood. This building proposal was approved after initial opposition.

  • A new bill introduced in the Colorado Legislature amends the CORA (Colorado Open Records Act), but does not reduce costs to people who want information from the government they pay for. Why do you think the government wants CORA costs to remain high?

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more!

If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our You Tube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tri-pod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
