  • The Consulate General of Canada in Boston has launched Boston Blue technology, a Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) for ocean technology firms. Select companies will be connected with mentors, customers, and investors. Participants will “graduate” from the program at the 10th annual Blue Innovation Symposium ’25, in Newport, RI, see below for more information including a link to apply.

  • It was announced last week that the state of RI's Ocean Tech Hub initiative was not funded by the EDA. But, even without this funding many believe that the state, and the region, will continue to push forward with blue economy initiatives, including Toby Stapleton, director of the Blue Venture Forum, Inc. Are you a Canadian company looking to grow your ocean technology business in the United States? Then apply today to Boston's Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) for ocean technology. This CTA is a 6-month hybrid program designed to help companies accelerate their entry into the U.S. market by providing access to mentors, customers, partners and investors in the Boston area.


The Consulate General of Canada in Boston and the Blue Venture Forum, Inc., have partnered to deliver this CTA and are looking for leading-edge Canadian ocean tech companies with differentiated solutions in:


  • Marine robotics, sensors & related software products
  • Software targeting the marine industry
  • Fisheries/aquaculture-related technology
  • Dual-Use marine technologies

Select companies will participate in a 6-month program which will connect them with mentors, customers, and investors. Participants will “graduate” from the program at the Blue Innovation Symposium ’25.

Ocean Tech Hub Effort to Continue

Rhode Island's exclusion on Tuesday from $504 million in federal grants for a dozen technology hubs across the nation surprised and disappointed those involved in the state's Ocean Tech Hub of Southeastern New England.


The Ocean Tech Hub's exclusion surprised Toby Stapleton, director of the Blue Venture Forum. The nonprofit based at Innovate Newport, supports the creation of more capital resources for the blue economy, and hosts programming that draws companies and investors from around the world to Rhode Island.


"Obviously everyone is disappointed that the funding didn't come through, but I think at the end of the day, it's not going to change the momentum that the state has had in blue technology." Stapleton Said.
