NTRAP Research Gaps Spotlight

Todd Costantini, MD, FACS, NTRAP Acute Resuscitation Delphi Panel leader.

Top Priorities for Acute Resuscitation Research

Each month in 2024, we're highlighting the highest priority research gaps identified by panels of subject matter experts in 11 topic areas as part of the National Trauma Research Action Plan (NTRAP). Following are the top three gaps identified by the Acute Resuscitation Trauma Panel:

  • Does early whole blood given prehospital or early after hospital admission improve outcomes in patients with hemorrhagic shock?
  • What are the effects of permissive hypotension on multiple injury patients with moderate and severe TBI, including the development of cerebral ischemia and infarction?
  • What is the optimal timing, agent, dose, and risk of intracranial hemorrhage after initiation of chemoprophylaxis in TBI with intracranial hemorrhage?
