Coming Soon - March 15 - Jefferson Park Monument Sign
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
| |
LOCATION: Corner of Grant and First Avenue | Monument Sign completed at Jason Butler's shop
Monument Sign in progress
| |
|
Jefferson Park will soon have a new monument sign that will be located at Grant and First Avenue, but we must have help! Jason Butler's design is completed and ready to go.
March 15th at 9am is the day of digging and installing the sign. Zach McDonald has made all arrangements with the Department of Transportation (DTM) and with Jason. It will take 8 -10 people to dig, mix, and move the sign into place.
We will meet at the southeast corner of Grant and Euclid. We will have digging materials, hard hats, ear pro, concrete, etc. Jason will bring the piece with break -away posts. Please wear long pants, boots, long sleeves, bring a hat, sunglasses, and gloves.
If you can help, please contact Zach MacDonald at 520-248-9882
or azacamaca@gmail.com

A LITTLE BACKGROUND AND SOME BIG THANK YOUS!
Thank you, Zach, for your organization and talent. This is Zach's second installation for JP. The sign in the traffic circle at Hampton and Edison is his work. About 4 folks helped set that one -- this monument sign will take 8-10!
Jason Butler is the talented metal fabricator who created the signs. The ramada and benches at the Banner Basin Park (Lester and Warren) are his. He incorporated the artwork of students of our International School of Tucson (IST), and the work of Blenman School students as well.
The cost of our new monument sign has been underwritten by Rainbow Collective, Inc. and initiated by neighbor Michael Crawford. Jefferson Park gets things done because we have wonderful neighbors!!
| |
THANK YOU FOR AGREEING TO SERVE!
Jeff Park welcomes new board members and heads of committees
|
NEW JPNA "at-large" BOARD MEMBER - Cindy Doklan
Cindy has also taken on the head of the Traffic Safety Committee. New to our neighborhood, 2022, she has had experience on the West University Neighborhood Assn Board where she previously lived. She worked on their traffic committee as well.
| |
NEW JPNA "at-large" BOARD MEMBER - Mary Alexander is a native Tucsonan, has lived in Jefferson Park for more than 20 years. She is the lead designer and principal of Treehouse Designs, a Tucson based Architectural and Interior Design firm. She is passionate about historic preservation and in love with the old neighborhoods in the center of Tucson.
NEW head of Green COMMITTEE Michael Hailey is passionate about native plants, pollinators, rainwater harvesting, composting, and all around sustainable living. He works for TCB as part of the Million Tree initiative, a program that is working to shade and cool Tucson's future, especially in Tucson's hottest neighborhoods.
NEW head of the TRAFFIC COMMITTEE - Cindy Doklan has been recruited to head up the traffic committee and she jumps in at the right time. We need signatures for the proposed speed humps on Seneca near Tyndall. Cindy, did you know what you were getting yourself into?!
|
Non-profit, Friends of Jeff Park, Inc welcomes new Board members
|
NEW BOARD MEMBER - Liz Burrola
This should say "returning board member". Liz has been a long time advocate for the Historic District nomination, worked on the Friends board, and participated in the home tours that earned the funding for the nomination. Liz has now taken on the duties of the Secretary for our non-profit, Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc. Thank you Liz.
NEW BOARD MEMBER - Also coming on board is Kat Mattimoe. Get ready, we will keep you two busy!! Thank you!
| |
|
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PAST SERVICE
|
|
THANK YOU MICHAEL CRAWFORD - former JPNA president and Member-at-Large. Michael is responsible for acquiring the funding for the new monument sign soon to be installed at Grant and First Avenue.
Michael has been an ongoing supporter of the Jefferson Park Neighborhood ...and will no doubt continue as a resident and an advocate.
THANK YOU
| |
|
THANK YOU JOAN HALL - four years president, four years secretary, four years treasurer and head of the Green Committee and the Traffic Committee. Joan was responsible for several Watershed Management grants that resulted in four basins along Vine. She leaves the board, but not our community. She will continue to work for Jefferson Park.
She invented the famous Ducky Race to highlight our water drainage problem. That was great fun!
Joan worked with leaders to get several City of Tucson projects completed. The Neighborhood Preservation Zone and the city-wide regulation on the minimum occupancy on mini-dorms in residential areas were a couple of her interests.
She is quick on her computer and helps with the Land Use Committee. Many neighbors have benefited from her advice on permits and building in a Historic Neighborhood. Don't worry, she will be around--probably watering and planting trees!
THANK YOU

Do you know about the Zanjero Program?
|
Tucson Water's Zanjero program (Zahn-HAIR-oh, or water manager) program helps residential customers manage their home water use. Customers can request a free individualized survey that gives them tips and information on how to lower water use and water bills.Tucson Water Zanjeros have extensive training in indoor and outdoor water conservation and efficiency. A Zanjero audit includes checking for excessive water consumption, measuring flow rates of showerheads and faucets, looking for special water uses such as spas, pools, or misting systems, and analyzing the efficiency of an irrigation system. During an audit, new low-flow fixtures, faucet aerators, or other water-saving devices may be provided.
To request a Zanjero water audit, call (520) 791-3242 or email TW_CustomerService@tucsonaz.gov and include your name, service address or account number, and a telephone number to reach you. An adult must be present at the time of the audit.
Free conservation kits can also be requested by going to https://www.eeexchange.org/twconserve .

MOUNTAIN Speed Tables are "tabled"
|
The originally proposed speed tables for Mountain Avenue have been cancelled by Department of Transportation "Bottom line the Mountain Speed tables have been rejected by the city. They do not allow speed humps on inverted roads-- and from Grant to Speedway it is "inverted". Inverted roads are designed to be urban washes and convey lots of storm water (the 100 year flood). A speed hump becomes a dam."
Jesse Soto, of the Department of Transportation (DTM), attended the Feb 22 meeting. He suggested a decrease from 30 to 25 mph on Mountain as a start. Other devices may be possible. It was decided that JP would set up a separate multi-neighborhood meeting with DTM and address other possibilities for making Mountain safer. The JPNA board voted to request a decrease in the speed limit. That process is ultimately a Mayor and Council decision.

85 - 110ft kV poles? It will be up to you in May!
|
Going to the voters in May. TEP now charges a 2.25% fee on residential electric bills. City staff and TEP are proposing updating the agreement to allow an increase from the current 2.25% franchise fee to 3%. The changes would raise the average residential TEP customer’s bill by an estimated 93 cents a month. Why? To UNDERGROUND THOSE LINES and to support climate initiatives. The Steering Committee of your Underground Coalition consider this solution a good one. No lines and poles down Campbell - a Gateway Corridor, and then, we can work for no overhead lines and massive poles through JP Historic District. Our website carries the latest updates: http://www.jeffersonpark.info/tep-138-kv-poles.html
