New Beginnings Journey

Church Updates, Missions, Around Town, Youth/Family Activity

February 15, 2023

Lent is a time to open the doors of our hearts a little wider and understand our Lord a little deeper. Lent is 40 days (not counting Sunday’s) from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday. These 40 days represent the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring temptations of Satan and preparing to begin His ministry. The Lenten season is a preparation for commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. It is a time for self-examination and reflection, repentance, fasting and an intentional season of focus on Christ’s life, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection.

Ash Wednesday Service February 22nd – 3 to 7pm

The imposition of ashes and ten prayer stations will be available for reflection. These self-guided multigenerational stations will help prepare your heart and mind for the season of lent. The ashes symbolize grief and the acceptance of our sinful state. Come as individuals or as a family. Bring a friend.

Palm Sunday – April 2nd – 10:30 am service

The Sunday before Easter commemorates Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem walking on palm branches before his Holy Thursday arrest. Easter Egg hunt following the service.

Maundy Thursday – April 6th, 7:00 pm service

This day is recognized as the day before Jesus is crucified. Jesus celebrated His final meal with his disciples and most notably, washed their feet as a display of humility and love.

Good Friday – April 7th – no services

On this the day we remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross. It is called "good" because it is part of God's plan for our salvation. God's good plan to redeem us from sin included the suffering of Jesus.

Easter Sunday – April 9th

The most important day in Christian history. Three days after his death, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus rose again, conquering death. Through Jesus, we have the opportunity to have eternal forgiveness for our sins, relationship with God, and eternity in heaven.

Sunrise Service – 7 am at Memorial Park downtown

In partnership with Zion Lutheran church, together we will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection as the sun rises over the Maumee River. Breakfast will follow at the Zion Church with a small breakfast prepared by out church family. Pastor Teresa will be preaching.

Easter Sunday Celebration – 10:30 am

Join us for an explosion of music and celebrating our risen Lord. This begins the

50-day Easter season and ends on Pentecost seven Sundays later.

FEBRUARY MISSION FOCUS

This nonprofit endeavor was started in 2005 when a 4-year-old girl named Hannah was helping her mother serve Thanksgiving dinner at the Cherry Street Mission.

Hannah noticed that a lot of the people didn’t have socks and was concerned because it was cold. The next day Hannah’s mom and she delivered 100 pairs of socks to nearby shelters.

Along with collecting socks at church, we are hosting a sock hop on February 28th at Waterville Primary school. We are suggesting that they bring socks to the event to donate for our drive. We will have music, dancing, games, snacks and raffles. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please look for the sign-up sheet.
