Gianluca Rotelli | "The Phone"

Gianluca Rotelli's still life paintings are usually filled objects that come from the recent past, such as sewing machines, typewriters, scales, a fan. "The Phone" speaks to the passage of man on earth and his creativity and intelligence. The phone, flowers and drape are immersed in a mysterious atmosphere that recalls still lifes from several centuries past. Man, his mind, and his creativity are at the center of Rotelli's art.

Gianluca Rotelli | "Barche in Cantiere" (Boats in the Yard)

The obvious choice is to depict boats while they are easily navigating through the bright waters.  Rotelli chose to paint these Italian boats ("Gozzo") in the shipyard during construction or repair.  In the past, Gozzos were used by fishermen, but today they are enjoying a second life as people purchase these boats for as romantic pleasure boats.

Rotelli used the scaffolding against the reassuring background of turquoise cobalt blue to express an idea of rational geometry.  Rotelli is keen to show us the work of builders and creators, men who are architects of their own destiny. The artist hints at human presence and those who build and their life just as the boat is solidly supported by scaffolding.

Gianluca Rotelli | "Barche in Secca" (Boats in Dry Dock)
"Barche in Secca" was painted on the coast in Tuscany, near Castagneto Carducci Bolgheri, in the small port of boats during the summer. To Gianluca Rotelli, boats are not subjects to be copied in a purely realistic style. The boats are clearly not new. The artist tells the story of time passing and leaving its mark. The boats will navigate again. The present, past, and future are connected. This painting captures a period of time at midday. The light has an inclination of 80 degrees and shadows are projected on the ground. Rotelli wanted to represent the sun at the highest point of the sky and create an atmosphere of sun and stillness - even the birds and the clouds seem motionless, as if captured in a photograph.
