New Adventures for Emmanuel!

The cicadas are singing as I sit writing at the dining room table, another Arizona first experience for me! I feel fortunate that I have been able to make a few trips to Prescott/Prescott Valley before our final move. On my visit on August 18
th
, it was great to see so many people participating in Ignite Your Spirit: Worship & Music Training Day. Kudos to the Worship and Music Ministry for supporting such a great event.
We have been so warmly welcomed, thank you all for your gracious hospitality. Please continue to tell me your name each time you see me; I will try to learn them in time! Tim and I picked up the keys for the small house we are renting a few blocks from the Courthouse square in Prescott on Tuesday, the 28
th
and we spent a little time moving into my church office as well. Thanks very much to the crew who painted the office!
I like the name of the ELC newsletter,
Good News
…the idea that we as a church and as people of God are listeners and tellers of the Good News. To do so, we must build relationships, bridges and ministries. We build relationships with God, with each other and with those we are reaching out to in our ministries. This is an exciting time at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and for Tim and me, and I feel especially blessed to be called to be part of the opportunities and adventures ahead. Of course, “building” also implies change, and that isn’t always easy. The
good news
is that we are in this together, and with our focus on the mission of being God’s hands and feet here in Prescott Valley, I know that the Holy Spirit will help us cope with any uneasiness that change can bring. I kind of feel like I always did on the first day of school; excited and a little scared all at the same time!
I will have regular posted office hours Tuesday through Thursday, so please stop by to visit and share with me your favorite stories of Emmanuel. I am looking forward to being part of the
Good News
stories that we will be sharing.
Many blessings,
Pastor Tricia

September Outreach: The Hungry Kids Project
|
|
This program is for the all the children in our school district. Bags filled with food are distributed each Friday during the school year to children who otherwise would not have anything to eat over the weekend.
Items such as a loaf of bread, peanut butter, jelly, fruit snack cups, ramen noodles, cereal packs, a can of tuna, ravioli, or spaghetti O’s, along with an apple, orange or raisins are included in each bag.
Bags are filled on Friday morning and then taken to the schools. There are currently over 150 bags distributed each week.

by clicking HERE
. During September, you can make a contribution to the Hungry Kids Project
through the monthly outreach, and if the project is close to your heart, you may learn more and volunteer.

A Parting Note from Pastor Sarah

Many blessings and prayers to you all! My time here at Emmanuel has been wonderful! I am so happy to know all of you. I give thanks to the quilters and the Bible study peeps for the sendoff. The shawl is awesome and the cake was yummy. Carole and the team have helped me enlarge my heart and enjoy great celebrations.
Many thanks for the cards prayers and acceptance this year. It is hard to leave but I trust you are blessed to have Pastor Tricia. Love her as you have me, and it will be a great future for all at Emmanuel.
Praying for you always,
Pastor Sarah

Pastor Deborah Hutterer: Signing Off from Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest
|
|
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Ephesians 3:20-21
God's power has always been rooted in love for the cosmos. The Biblical mandate over and over again calls us to care for the widow, the orphan and immigrant. Jesus makes himself clear that he has come to use his power to heal the brokenhearted, to set prisoners free, and to bring sight to the blind. Jesus calls us to love our neighbor.
This is why I answered the call to LSS-SW. I wanted to be a part of something bigger than my individual life that had impact in the Kingdom of God and inviting others to do the same. These past 6 years have been about God taking our resources and making them far more than we can ask or imagine to care for God's world.
As I sign off from LSS-SW I want to thank each of you for the part you play in this mission. I want to especially thank my team —
Chong Bee, Hannah, Heidi, Jenny, Joanna, and Stephanie. They have been with me, often behind the scenes, and will carry this work forward in new and exciting ways. I have included their contact information below. I know you will give them the same kindness you have given me.
I count it to be a privilege to have been a partner with you in this work and look forward to being a partner in a different way. And I hope you will join my Installation as Bishop on September 8 (see details below.)
In deep, deep, gratitude,
