Issue #43 | June 7, 2024

Construction Update

Noise wall construction is progressing nicely throughout the project area. Near northbound U.S. 69 and 139th Street, noise wall posts have been installed and crews are placing panels. Once panels are in place, crews will paint them and apply finishing touches. Noise wall construction is at varying stages within the project area. All noise walls are expected to be complete by the end of the project.

Crews install noise wall panels along northbound U.S. 69 at 139th Street.

Traffic Updates

On Sunday, June 9, the southbound U.S. 69 to College Blvd. off-ramp will fully close for reconstruction as crews continue work in that area. The ramp will re-open Thursday, June 20 at 6 a.m. Drivers are advised to exit southbound U.S. 69 at 119th Street or utilize the southbound U.S. 69 collector-distributor road at 103rd Street to access College Blvd.

Please check the project website for daily closure information or sign up for text alerts.

Southbound U.S. 69 to College Blvd. detour route

Following the re-opening of the southbound College Blvd. ramp, two long-term full closures will impact traffic along 119th Street. The southbound U.S. 69 to 119th Street off-ramp and the 119th Street to northbound U.S. 69 on-ramp will both close through October for reconstruction. Other long-term closures of 119th Street will take place in the summer as the entire interchange is reconstructed. Detour routes will be marked and shared in our newsletter and on the project website. Please monitor the 119th Street Closure page on our project website for more information.

We understand that long-term closures can significantly impact residents and business owners. If you have questions or concerns about the closures at 119th Street, please email info@69express.org for additional information.

Pedestrian Trail and Sidewalks

With summer a few weeks away, two pedestrian sidewalks will reopen at 139th Street and 143rd Street. These sidewalks are scheduled to reopen June 16, coinciding with the reopening of these city streets. We appreciate your patience as work concludes in these areas. Currently, bike and pedestrian trails at Indian Creek are scheduled to reopen in late 2024/early 2025. Tomahawk Creek trail is scheduled to reopen in the spring/summer 2025. For more information on trail closures and detour routes, please check the Overland Park trail closure map.
