Molecular Detection of Bovine alphaherpesvirus type 1.1 using the UVP MultiDoc-It Gel Visualizer

Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is one that can be detrimental to a herd of cattle. It has been known to be one of the most costly illnesses to the bovine industry, worldwide. The disease is known to be multifactorial and able to suppress immunity. BoHV-1 plays extraordinary roles in the initiation of BRD by suppression of lung clearance mechanism of the infected cases, allowing the secondary infections inducing severe pneumonia followed by death. In the research presented in this application note, scientists aim to investigate the role of BoHV-1 infection in the diseased cattle with molecular detection of BoHV-1 genomes in deep pulmonary tissues of the necropsied cases by conventional PCR using species specific primers.

The UVP MultiDoc-It is an affordable option for gel imaging of stained gels. The darkroom comes assembled with choice of UV transilluminator and UV safety shut off switches triggered by opening the door. The exclusive software controls the camera functions, live preview of images, image capture and image enhancement. For brilliant color TLC gel imaging of samples such as Ginkgo Biloba, the UVP MultiDoc-It TLC model is available. The model includes two UVGL-25 UV Lamps for placement overhead inside the darkroom (no transilluminator is included with this model).

Features

■ High resolution megapixel digital color camera for capturing images

■ Rugged metal darkroom, with three viewing doors and overhead white light, mounts onto a transilluminator (or plate for TLC applications)

■Capture software enables image capture, enhancement and reporting capabilities

■ Optional UV lamps can be mounted in the darkroom for overhead UV illumination (The MultiDoc-It TLC includes two UV lamps but no transilluminator)
