For the latest updates, trends, and opportunities for all things
multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs)

Dear MPT Insiders,
Today, in recognition of International Women's Day, we are excited to share the launch of our new immersive StoryMap, entitled Word on the Street: African Women Share Their Reproductive Health Stories.

Produced as a collaboration between CAMI Health (the Secretariat to the IMPT), Wits RHI, and FHI 360, Word on the Street is built on Esri’s ArcGIS StoryMaps platform.

The burden of HIV, other STIs, and unintended pregnancy is disproportionately high among young women in sub-Saharan Africa. For example, across this region, adolescent girls and young women are nearly twice as likely to be living with HIV as men of the same age. Similar regional trends are apparent in data related to other STIs and unintended pregnancy.

However, epidemiological data alone tell an incomplete story.
Word on the Street is an immersive mapping tool that captures authentic narratives from interviews with adolescent girls and young women, key influencers (grandmothers and male partners), and technical experts in South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

By centering the voices and lived experiences of these stakeholders on an interactive platform, it serves as an advocacy tool for the meaningful inclusion of the needs of the most marginalized in the development of sexual and reproductive health products, particularly multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs).

Word on the Street was made possible with the generous support from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, through USAID, under Envision FP's PROMISE Collaboration.
Best regards,
IMPT Secretariat Staff
