Board of Supervisors Denies Rise Grass Valley's Vested Rights Petition
Today, after a two-day Special Meeting, which included public comment, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to deny Rise Grass Valley’s Petition for Recognition of Vested Rights to conduct mining operations at the Idaho Maryland Mine. The Board found that the Petition failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the finding of a vested right and that, further, any mining operations had been abandoned. Therefore, neither Rise Grass Valley nor any other party has a vested right to mine the subject property.

Mobile Crisis Team to Offer 24/7 Response to Mental Health Incidents in Nevada County
Nevada County residents will soon have access to a mobile crisis team that can respond to mental health incidents. The team, which rolls out in the new year, is a partnership between Nevada County Behavioral Health and Sierra Mental Wellness Group and was approved by the Board of Supervisors on December 5. The team was formed because the state Department of Health Care Services is now requiring that all county behavioral health systems in California provide this type of mobile crisis intervention services as a Medi-Cal benefit. Nevada County Receives California State Association of Counties Recreation Award
The California State Association of Counties presented its prestigious Challenge Award to Nevada County for its continued dedication to finding collaborative solutions for visitor safety and outdoor recreation. The county was selected in part because of the South Yuba River Public Safety Cohort, a multi-agency working group of federal, state, local, and community stakeholders that coordinates public safety and law enforcement in the South Yuba River corridor.
“I’m very excited to have this ongoing success story be recognized as a model for other communities," said Supervisor Heidi Hall. “The Yuba Cohort is a key partnership, and we couldn’t have done it without involvement from the fire agencies, local nonprofits, and our state and federal partners." Supervisor Sue Hoek added that she is happy the partnership has helped keep people safe to enjoy all the Yuba River has to offer.
