County Awarded Nearly $1 Million for South Yuba Rim Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors accepted nearly $1 million in funding from the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) for the South Yuba Rim Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project. Supervisors also approved a contract with local non-profit, Yuba Watershed Institute, to begin work. Fuels reduction work is anticipated to begin in 2026 after Phase 1 Planning is completed.

Community Resiliency Grants Continue to Keep Truckee Thriving

Ben Martin remembers the day the music stopped in Truckee.

It was four years ago. The Covid-19 pandemic was sending alarms that reverberated throughout the mountain community. Students could no longer attend in-person lessons at Tahoe Truckee School of Music and live music performances came to an abrupt halt at downtown venues.


Nevada County responded to local organizations in dire need with a series of Community Resiliency Grants, providing one-time funding of up to $100,000 for local programs to increase resiliency, support recovery and provide relief from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Damaged PG&E Infrastructure Impacts NID Water Supply

Severe damage to infrastructure owned by Pacific Gas & Electric at Lake Spaulding has effectively cut off water supplies to NID. The situation will impact deliveries to all NID customers (raw water and treated water customers in Nevada and Placer counties) and have severe effects on lake levels and recreation opportunities this summer. Also, hydroelectric generation will be affected by the water restrictions.
