National Homeownership Month | |
|
National Homeownership Month, celebrated annually in June, spotlights the benefits of owning a home and supports efforts to make homeownership accessible for all Americans. In California, the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) plays a pivotal role in these efforts by offering a range of resources to help individuals and families achieve homeownership.
CalHFA provides various loan programs designed to assist first-time homebuyers. These include the CalHFA FHA Loan Program, CalPLUS FHA Loan Program, and CalHFA VA Loan Program, which offer low-interest loans with the option for down payment and closing cost assistance. Additionally, the MyHome Assistance Program provides a deferred-payment junior loan for down payment and closing costs, making it easier for buyers to manage upfront expenses.
Beyond loan programs, CalHFA offers education and counseling services to ensure that prospective homeowners are well-prepared for the responsibilities of homeownership. These services include homebuyer education courses, which cover crucial topics like budgeting, credit management, and the home-buying process. These courses are often required for loan qualification, ensuring that buyers are informed and ready for the journey ahead.
CalHFA also focuses on supporting sustainable and energy-efficient homeowner-ship. Programs like the Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) and the HERO Financing Program help homeowners make eco-friendly improvements, reducing energy costs and promoting environmental sustainability.
Through these comprehensive resources, CalHFA not only facilitates homeownership but also ensures that it is sustainable and accessible, reflecting the spirit of National Homeownership Month by helping more Californians achieve the dream of owning a home.

Meet Nourishing Meals
Nourishing Meals founders Sarah Orzalli and Anne Solano were inspired to combine a passion for healthy cooking with a passion for supporting others in making meaningful changes in their lives. Their mission is to help you eat well easily all week by delivering carefully crafted, nutrient-dense, plant-based meals to your door.
Their mission is founded on the understanding that food is the primary resource we have for creating and sustaining a satisfying state of health. It is also based on the recognition that accessing optimal nutrition is often far more challenging than it needs to be.
Even as health-minded individuals, we face barriers to consistently eating in a way that is nourishing to us. Instead, we rely on quick foods because we are tired and busy. Or, our best efforts are hijacked by cravings because we are stressed and depleted.
Nourishing Meals provides home delivery to Nevada City, Grass Valley, and the surrounding community. They also offer a Business Center Lunch Club option for combined orders in office settings. If you’d like to set up a lunch club in your workplace, email support@nourishingmeals.com.
