We frequently discuss the fact that some of the world's largest public companies are looking at Central Ohio as their need to expand data storage increases. Our firm recently completed the negotiation and transfer of 228 acres for our clients’ sale to Microsoft.
Microsoft paid $29 million for several tracts of land previously owned by Licking County residents. The property is expected to be used for data storage.
“This is one of the most exceptionally complex transactions that we've had to deal with to date," says Jim Havens, founder of Havens Limited. “This negotiation was handled by Wes Gilliland, who heads up our transaction and development practice. The sale involved oil and gas leases, as well as a railroad corridor.”
Additionally, Havens Limited provided legal advice regarding a tax deferral strategy for our clients.
This sale was Microsoft's fifth Licking County transaction over the last 13 months. The first two involved parcels previously held by MBJ Holdings in which Microsoft paid approximately $60 million for land in the New Albany and Johnstown areas. The third Microsoft transaction was on Refugee Road in Pataskala last October for $30 million. In May, Microsoft closed on 975 Thornwood Drive in Heath for slightly over $32 million.
