January 2011

Greetings!
It's Monday...back to work, 3 days into the New Year...HELP!  Where did my commitment to keeping those New Year's resolutions go?

Don't worry!  Egleston Square can help!  If you spend more time in Egleston, you might just be able to keep some of your resolutions.

Don't believe it?

Read on to learn how...

Top 10 New Year's Resolutions
January resolutions start
..and how EGLESTON SQUARE
can help you keep them...

10.  Meet new people:
Do you live in the neighborhood but feel as though you don't really know the people who live here?  There are many ways to get involved:
Attend the Race Dialogues at the Egleston Square Library, to discuss this important issue with your neighbors.  Email Brandon Abbs for more info.
Volunteers are needed at the Egleston YMCA.  Email Mae Vaughn for more info.
Check out our website for a listing of local organizations.

9.  Try new things:
Get a new look at a local hair salon, or try a new food at Millennium Restaurant (3094 Washington) or Pin Bochinche Restaurant (3160 Washington).

8.  Get Organized:
Egleston Dollar Stop (3122 Washington)
has personal planners, containers and other tools.  Extra Space Storage, (3175 Washington) can help you with all your storage needs!  And All Time Service, 89 Forest Hills Street, can help with your cleaning needs!

7.  Reduce stress
Get a manicure or pedicure at Rainbow Nail Salon (3112 Washington).  Or take a relaxing walk through Franklin Park

6.  Learn something new
Take a class at Stonybrook Fine Arts
(24 Porter Street) or the Egleston Square Library (2044 Columbus Ave.).

5.  Get more exerciseWalk in the park
Work with a local personal trainer at  Wikid Fit Fearless FITT or get a membership at  Mike's Fitness(284 Amory Street).  If you're the outdoor type, walk to the Peace Garden or through Franklin Park

4.  Lose weight and eat healthier
Try these stores for healthy options:
Fresh fish at Star Fish Market (3089 Washington), salads at Egleston Pizza (3080 Washington), and fresh vegetables at the newly expanded La Peraviana Market (3095 Washington).

3.  Save money
Shopping in Egleston Square will save gas, time and money!  It also helps keep dollars in our local community!

2. Spend more time with family/ friends
How about a cup of coffee for two at Canto 6 (3346 Washington),  a ladies' day out at a local salon or take-out at home from a local restaurant?

1.  MAKE A DIFFERENCE:  We all know that last year was a good but difficult year in our community, as we dealt with the aftermath of youth violence.  But did you know that you can make a difference just by shopping locally?  By doing so, you'll help local businesses generate enough $ to hire local young people, offering more opportunities to our youth and impacting the entire neighborhood!!

See?  You're well on your way to keeping those resolutions!!

Put your New Year's resolutions into action by visiting
Plaza Meat Market!

207 Boylston Street

In December, we highlighted Harry, the owner of this great market.
This month, why don't you visit!?!  By doing so, you'll
  • Find great LOCALLY produced food
  • Meet your neighbors, including young people, with whom you might never interact.

  • Generate additional $ so that Harry can hire more local residents, including young people!

  • Move us ONE STEP CLOSER to building peace and reducing violence!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR DOING YOUR PART TO MAKE EGLESTON SQUARE A GREAT COMMUNITY IN WHICH TO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY.
