Benches galore!

Kennebunk Land Trust volunteers were busy installing five new benches in our preserves. These were memorial benches, honoring loved ones in our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped place the benches in the preserves, and to the families who chose KLT to remember their loved ones.

Enjoy the five new benches in Alewive Preserve on the Red Trail at Sucker Brook (top); Butler Preserve along the river (bottom left); and Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary on the outlook (bottom right); Wonderbrook Park on the Red Trail looking downriver; and For All Forever along the river.

Save the Dates!

We are excited to share the beauty of our preserves, and provide an opportunity to take a piece of them home!

Starting this weekend (Sept. 15, 16 and 17), local artists will be out in our preserves capturing the special landscapes. Go find them and watch them work!

Meet the Artists

Next, the community is invited to attend an in-person event and take home those unique pieces in an auction on September 28th.

Event Registration

The art silent auction and gathering will take place at The Elective on September 28, from 5 - 7p.m.

The open gathering will have a cash bar and appetizers to enjoy while meeting the artists and perusing art pieces.

Kennebunk Land Trust is looking for a special volunteer to support the American Chestnut trees growing in For All Forever Preserve.

Now, our trees don't look like the one pictured above yet, but we want them to!

In 2020, KLT partnered with the Environmental Studies program at UNE and professor Tom Klak 's lab to plant three American Chestnut trees in For All Forever Preserve. This was a part of an ongoing effort to bring back the tree species that went functionally extinct due to blight at the turn of the century.

Kennebunk Land Trust is looking for a volunteer to provide basic care for the trees to help them thrive into maturity.

Tasks may include:

  • Watering the trees during particularly dry spells
  • Weeding and removing competing plants growing nearby
  • Apply soil amendments as needed
  • If desired, continue as a volunteer Chestnut Liaison to help plant more trees in future as the American Chestnut Foundation releases their blight-tolerant tree

Please fill out our Volunteer Interest form below and indicate why you want to be our Chestnut volunteer.
