Now, our trees don't look like the one pictured above yet, but we want them to!
In 2020, KLT partnered with the Environmental Studies program at UNE and professor Tom Klak 's lab to plant three American Chestnut trees in For All Forever Preserve. This was a part of an ongoing effort to bring back the tree species that went functionally extinct due to blight at the turn of the century.
Kennebunk Land Trust is looking for a volunteer to provide basic care for the trees to help them thrive into maturity.
Tasks may include:
- Watering the trees during particularly dry spells
- Weeding and removing competing plants growing nearby
- Apply soil amendments as needed
- If desired, continue as a volunteer Chestnut Liaison to help plant more trees in future as the American Chestnut Foundation releases their blight-tolerant tree
Please fill out our Volunteer Interest form below and indicate why you want to be our Chestnut volunteer.
