Be Informed: Pool Winterization Process

As summer winds to a close, Reston Association will be partially draining the pools as part of the winterization process. This annual maintenance plan is in place for a few reasons. RA pools are constructed as concrete shells in the ground and require water weight to prevent shifting during the winter months. We use slow-dissolving chlorine treatments designed specifically for “winterized” pools to combat algae growth. This process has already begun and will wrap up in late October. As always, we will be following local guidelines to neutralize chlorine levels, stabilize pH levels, and correctly drain the water. Fairfax County pool draining guidelines may be found here: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/publicworks/stormwater/proper-discharge-swimming-pool-water

Native Shrub and Tree Sale

The Nature Center has launched its 2024 Native Shrub and Tree Sale. Seven shrubs and three trees are offered for this year. Native plants are better adapted to the changes in weather and provide aesthetic and wildlife value to yards and neighborhoods.

Orders are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 20 and plants must be picked up on Saturday, September 28 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Plants can be ordered online at www.bit.ly/WNCPlantSale

The native plant sales support programs and education at The Nature Center.
