 NGCP Fifteenth Anniversary!
In September of 2002, NGCP leadership received funding from the National Science Foundation to serve educators in the Pacific Northwest by providing networking and professional development opportunities. We developed the Program Directory as a way to find STEM opportunities and as a collaboration tool which has grown and transitioned to
The Connectory, the largest national database of programs and opportunities for young people.
Fifteen years later, Collaboratives are serving 41 states connected locally and nationally to provide more opportunities for girls to engage in STEM activities. The NGCP collaborative model is transforming the way educators work to advance the participation of girls in STEM. More than 20.15 million girls (and 9.5 million boys) are served by programs participating in the NGCP network.

NGCP Webinar Building Bridges: How to Partner Across In-School and Out-of-School
 October 18, 2017; 4:30 PM Pacific (7:30 PM Eastern)
The NGCP has partnered with CS for All Teachers, an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation and managed by the American Institutes for Research to bring you this joint webinar. Designed to be useful for both in-school, formal educators and out-of-school time, informal educators, this webinar will first focus on the benefits for youth of bridging in-school and out-of-school time learning. After support for this approach is covered, practitioners who have successfully built this  bridge in their communities will share their experiences and lessons learned. This will be a participatory webinar, and you are encouraged to come with your own successes and challenges to share with the group.

NGCP and Science Action Club is Seeking Afterschool Programs
NGCP is proud to partner with the California Academy of Sciences again on the Science Action Club (SAC) project. SAC is a nationwide STEM program for middle school youth in out-of-school time. Through games, projects, and hands-on activities, youth investigate nature, document their discoveries, connect with scientists, and design strategies to protect our planet.
Collaboratives throughout the nation are seeking afterschool programs to participate in the SAC project. Programs will join a community of educators in their region that will be trained on and implement this environmental science curriculum with their youth. Activity Leaders that participate in this professional development will receive an activity guidebook with lesson plans for 12 one-hour club sessions and a teaching kit that contains tools and supplies for 20 youth. STEM and Wellness: A Powerful Equation for Equity
The National Girls Collaborative is pleased to announce the release of its latest resource document, STEM and Wellness: A Powerful Equation for Equity. Created in partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, National AfterSchool Association, and
Afterschool Alliance

this document is intended for STEM program providers, school teachers
and
administrators, and parents to help bolster the argument for blending STEM and wellness
education and practices, and to provide the resources in order to do so. The ultimate goal of this document is for more youth to benefit from educators having the necessary information and resources and to combine STEM, physical fitness, and healthy eating rather than sacrificing one to implement the other. Pacific Northwest Girls Collaborative Project Collaboration Forum
Seattle, WA; September 18, 2017
Organizations and individuals interested in the advancement of girls in STEM fields are invited to attend this Collaboration Forum at the Woodland Park Zoo. Learn about the climate of STEM from a panel of girls, explore exemplary practices for engaging girls in STEM, meet potential collaborators, explore new ideas for hands-on STEM, and contribute your own thoughts and resources for how we as a community can support girls and girl-serving programs. PA STEM Girls Collaborative Project CryptoClub Training

The CryptoClub Project consists of classroom and web-based materials, which teach cryptography and related mathematics to students in grades 5-12 in both formal and informal settings. The CryptoClub curriculum was developed with National Science Foundation support and has been nationally field-tested. Register.

Jill Rosenberg

Meet
Jill Rosenberg. When Jill was in high school her biology teacher put a picture on the board of all the signaling pathways in a cell that have to go wrong in order to get cancer. From that point on she was hooked and thought cell signaling was absolutely amazing. She attended Tulane University to major in Cell and Molecular Biology and is now a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Cancer Biology at the University of Chicago. Jill is a new FabFem looking for ways to get girls interested in science.

National Career Pathways Network (NCPN) Conference

The Connectory. The Connectory is a free online collaboration tool for STEM program providers to find partners based on interests as well as a platform to showcase STEM opportunities to families.
This month we are featuring two afterschool opportunities that kick off with the 2017-1018 school year. Have you added your back-to-school and afterschool opportunities to The Connectory? Our
Getting Started Guide makes it easy.
Young Women in Computing Afterschool Programs: YWiC high school afterschool workshops in Las Cruces, NM will host 20 YWiC alumnae, who have previous experience in computer science through coding, building games, programming in C (Arduino), and robotics. This afterschool program is for girls (grades 9-12) that have previously participated in a YWiC summer camp. No cost to participate.
Girls Inc. After School Program: Available to girls (grades 4-8) in the Twin Cities, the program addresses four learning goals: academic success in science and math, financial literacy, leadership development, and healthy decision-making. The multifaceted program creates an enriching and fun community that supports girl-led learning, great friendships, and real personal growth. Trained staff inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold through a variety of fun hands on activities and events.

National Hispanic Heritage Month
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th - October 15, 2017), here are some resources that serve to promote Latino(a) students in STEM:
Latinas in STEM: Primary purpose is to spread awareness about STEM and inspire and encourage middle and high school Latinas, especially within underserved communities, to strongly consider pursuing a STEM career.
Latinas in STEM educates students as well as parents so they may be better positioned to support their daughters. Secondary purpose is to help Latinas thrive in college and careers through mentorship, networking, and recognition.
Noche de Ciencias - Family Science Nights: Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) student and professional chapters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico engage their local communities with activities for K-12 students and informative bilingual workshops for their parents. The goal of Noche De Ciencias is to provide access and awareness of STEM fields in order to broaden the participation of Hispanics along all segments of the science and engineering pathway.

 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors high school women who are active and interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to pursue their passions. This multi-tiered competition includes recognition at national and local levels, serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and all U.S. overseas military bases. Award for AiC recipients are chosen for their demonstrated interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education. Applications deadline is November 6, 2017.

Global educators and professionals will host connective projects and events and invite public participation. The primary goals of Global Collaboration Day are to demonstrate the power of global connectivity in classrooms, schools, institutions of informal learning, and universities around the world, as well as introduce tools, resources, and projects that are available to educators.
