Dear FBLA Advisers
On Thursday evening, September 21, National FBLA Awards Director Jen Staley presented an excellent overview of the now revised and published National FBLA High School Competitive Events Guidelines. I would encourage advisers and members take time to watch the 45-minutes Zoom recording for information on the following:
- overview of FBLA High School competitive events program (at the national level)
- revised National guidelines
- new competitive events
- revised competitive events
- how to prepare for competitive events

For Middle School Advisers
National FBLA has released a Zoom recording of a similar Middle School FBLA competitive events program overview (and only those events offered at the national level). I did not participate in the middle school Zoom meeting. Michele Sites, Middle School Coordinator, will address middle school competitive events separately with middle school advisers. However, if you want to watch the middle school video, here is the information:

The new National FBLA competitive guidelines have taken a whole new look and should serve as a "one-stop" center for competitive events information. In the video, though, Jen Staley repeats over and over again that what she is presenting is the administration of competitive events at the national conference in June. Derek Selleck, Competitive Events Coordinator, will be modifying the guidelines to identify how the events will be administered at the regional and state conferences, and that is going to take time. Regardless, much of the competitive events information remains the same, but the administration may be different at the regional and state levels.
National FBLA has categorized the 75+ competitive events into these categories:
- Chapter Events
- Objective Tests
- Presentation Events
- Production Events
- Role Play Events

You can find ALL of the National FBLA event guidelines at this link.
You can find the 2023-2024 competitive events topics here.
National FBLA has also provided a separate document with competitive events descriptions separate from the event guidelines as a quick overview.
NEW: You can find the 2023-2024 competitive events descriptions (with PA FBLA specific info) here.
What is the missing information in these guidelines? When National FBLA released these guidelines, they left two areas in the guidelines that need to be personalized for the 75+ events. Once Derek Selleck has that finalized, we will republish the guidelines with PA FBLA specific administration information on the PA FBLA website.
In the meantime, I had distributed the following information about the events that will be offered at the Region Leadership Conferences at this link; how they will be administered at the RLCs; and the number of entries per chapter. This document also identified the events that are considered "state-only" events. Use this as a reference regarding the PA FBLA Region Leadership Conferences.
Competitive Events Bootcamps
I am hoping as many of you (members and advisers) will consider attending the State Leadership Workshop, October 29-30, to have members and advisers participate in the different "competitive events bootcamps" that Derek Selleck will be offering at Kalahari. These are designed to help both members and advisers prepare for the competitive events. Registration closes this Saturday, September 30, at 11:59 pm. There will be NO extensions as we must turn in all lodging lists to Kalahari on October 1.
Below are the two areas you will find in the national guidelines document that will be personalized with PA FBLA specific information once they are published.
