HEY, PRESS DEMOCRAT!  YOU FORGOT A COUPLE OF SENTENCES!

The Press Democrat recently printed Wilfred Avenue-area resident Pam Miller's Letter to the Editor, but the left out the last two sentences.

Here's the letter Pam wrote, including the last two sentences.

You figure out why the PD's Editors cut them!

"Dear Editor,

"Your paper paints a rosy picture of how the new Graton Casino is bringing Rohnert Park back from the brink of disaster.  I'd like to share some of the other new realities of being a neighbor of Rohnert Park's saving grace.

"While Tribal Chairman Greg Sarris resides high above his newly created magnet for questionable activity, the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the casino must now deal with the traffic, sirens, hookers, thugs, and thieves who have arrived.

"Promises of support and street closures from our elected officials go unfulfilled as the temporary street closure signs lay toppled over in drainage ditches or people simply drive around them.  Imagine watching strangers slowly driving up and down your street peering into every driveway.  As usual, we will have to wait until after we have a long list of disastrous events to report before any elected official will actually follow through with any assistance.

"The Press Democrat needs to do a better job of balanced reporting.  Otherwise, is just looks like the former lobbyist for the tribe owns the local newspaper.

"Pamela A. Miller"

DROUGHT DEEPENS

It is official:  This has been the driest January on record.  We're in an emergency state due to drought, and a disaster has been declared by the federal government.  Lake Mendocino is dry, my friends, and meanwhile, the casino is sucking water from our other major
WATER STORAGE TANK AT THE GRATON CASINO
water source, the Santa Rosa Plain Aquifer, at the rate of an estimated 500,000 gallons  a day.

No one knows for sure how much water the casino uses;  Graton's leadership won't make that information public because they don't have to and they probably don't want us to know.

Casino-area residents worry about the casino's impact on private wells, their only source of water.   Read about the drought at the  Press Democrat .

24 hours at the casino

On Wednesday January 15,  at about 11:00 pm, a Nevada man who had been drinking at the Graton casino led police on a high-speed chase before running off the road on Milbrae Avenue.  Maybe the fact that he was not only intoxicated, but also had three pounds of pot in his car encouraged the driver to run for it! Read all about it HERE.

On Thursday, January 16, at about  10:35 PM, almost 24 hours exactly after the Wednesday night incident, a Petaluma guy stole truck from the Graton casino parking lot, rammed police car - well, you read can read the whole story at the Press Democrat website.

GRATON CASINO: CRIME MAGNET

What else has happened at the casino since it opened?  Here's some "highlights" , a potpourri, if you will, of just SOME of the criminal activity from opening day on November 5 to November 31, 2013:

November 5:    Assault, 7:35 am

November 9:    Sexual Assault,  Forcible Fondling, 9:55 pm

November 11:  Pocket Picking, 10:36 am

November 14:  Drug/Narcotic, 5:44 am

November 17:  Larceny, 9:00 pm

November 8:    Assault, Intimidation, 3:45 pm

November 22:  Recovered Vehicle (in other words, stolen, and taken to the casino by the thieves) 7:27 pm

November 29:   Drunkenness, 9:23 pm

November 30:   Theft from Motor Vehicle, 4:00 pm

What tops the charts of the Casino's Biggest Hits?  Other than the catch-all categories of "all other offenses" "criminal" or "non-criminal",  it's Drugs and Narcotics, followed by Assault.

Two years ago, the casino site looked like this, and nothing happened there at all, except hay growing to feed the dairy cows.

FIRST RESTAURANT CLOSURE AT GRATON CASINO

If we're to judge by the mostly empty parking lot, the Graton casino has failed to wow Bay Area gamblers.  As a result of dropping numbers of casino customers, DK Wings, one of the eateries in the casino, closed its doors last week after about two months.  Other of the casino's eateries say business "meets expectations", which may be purposefully vague, or they are "hoping for yet more business."    H-m-m-m.

DID YOU KNOW?

Mobster Bugsy Siegel placed slot machines in the Flamingo in Las Vegas to keep the wives and girlfriends busy while the men gambled.

It was thought at the time that women were simply too stupid to engage in anything but the mindless activity of putting a coin in a slot, pulling a handle, and watching the pretty pictures spin around.

Slots are now an Equal Opportunity scam, and both sexes play them.  My question is, why?
