Yesterday, the City of Nampa received a $3.5 million award from the Environmental Protection Agency to fund an innovative project aimed at enhancing our water quality. With this generous grant, we'll be constructing a cutting-edge wetland system designed to remove toxins from stormwater runoff.

This innovative project will improve water quality on Indian Creek and is another example of Nampa's good stewardship of our environmental resources. Treating stormwater that enters our rivers and streams is critical for safeguarding our water and creating a healthier environment for us all.

The Karcher Constructed Wetland Project, located off I-84 and the Karcher interchange, is a groundbreaking initiative with wetlands spanning six acres of the 27-acre project site, making it the first of its kind in Idaho!

We would like to thank the EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe and EPA Region 10 Administrator Casey Sixkiller for presenting the Columbia River Basin Restoration Program Toxics Reduction Lead Grant in person and for their time to visit with our staff and community members during their visit. The City of Nampa's Public Works staff and the Idaho Transportation Department, which owns the land and has approved the construction of the project, are also to be commended.

Stay tuned for more updates!

-Mayor Debbie

IDAHO HISPANIC COMMUNITY CENTER

The building located at 315 Stampede Drive has been renamed to the Idaho Hispanic Community Center (IH2C), as recommended by the Nampa Community & Cultural Advisory Group and approved by Nampa City Council this week.

Nampa Community & Cultural Advisory Group Chair, Dan Puga, shared, “The advisory committee is excited to complete our first step in a series of steps to move us forward. The new name allows us to brand and market the center and fulfill its intent to improve the quality of life for all people as well as to recognize, celebrate, and preserve Hispanic heritage, culture and values.”

Since the City of Nampa took control of the building in July 2023, a number of deferred maintenance items have been addressed. In addition to many of the infrastructure needs, a new Facilities Manager, Jose DeLeon, was hired in early February and continues to work hard on booking the facility and promoting its use.

Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling said, “I greatly appreciate the work of the Nampa Community & Cultural Advisory Group in identifying a new facility name and their continued work to make recommendations on the highest and best use of the Idaho Hispanic Community Center moving forward.”

Now that the new name has been identified, it will be easier to brand and market the facility, including creating a new website and social media pages for promotion. For questions about the facility, contact Jose DeLeon at deleonj@cityofnampa.us or call (208) 936-5725.

It's National Municipal Clerk’s Week!

Municipal Clerk's Week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the importance of the clerk's office. The City Clerk's Office is the keeper of permanent and official records for the city and historically serves as the center for information for the public.

Did you know every city in Idaho is required to have a City Clerk, who is appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council?

Passports are not statutorily required however, we are thankful the Nampa Clerk's Office provides this service to the community. In 2023, Nampa processed 5,586 passports and, as of May 8, we have processed 2,958 passports!

Thank you to our City Clerk, Char Tim, and all those serving in the Clerk's Office!

We appreciate you!
