Don't Miss Your Chance To Be Part of The Next Class!

Up to $7,000 per apprentice is available from SUNY!

The New York State Turfgrass Association (NYSTA) is committed to fostering excellence in turf management and maintenance. In alignment with our mission to support and develop the turf industry's future leaders, we're thrilled to share significant updates to our Greenskeeper and Equipment Technician Apprenticeship Programs.

The most exciting news is that financial support is being provided by SUNY and NYSDOL, which offers a substantial award up to $7,000 for each apprentice accepted into this program. This financial stipend covers nearly 100% of the educational component required for apprenticeship. There is a one-time investment fee of $2,500 to enroll in the program, however, in addition to the $7,000 mentioned above, employers may be eligible for government tax credits up to $5,000 per apprentice over the two year program.

The Greenskeeper apprenticeship program includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and 288-hours of related instruction. As it relates to the Greenskeeper program, individuals will earn 19 college credits with specialties in turfgrass management, disease, pest, water management, horticulture and other industry specific education. We see this being a valuable initiative and program to help employers address the shortage in skilled positions in the industry, and retain quality employees.

How can this program benefit you? We developed a case study with Noyac Golf Club in Long Island, New York to share their experience working through the Apprenticeship program. Please click here to learn more - NYSTA Apprenticeship Case Study.

Throughout the winter months we have been developing process implementation, outreach, marketing, and ensuring appropriate onboarding policies with all respected parties. We have formalized a small steering committee to share information and feedback from industry employers and SUNY-Delhi to strengthen the program.

For employers looking to participate or are interested to learn how you can benefit from our apprenticeship program, please visit www.nysta.org or click here to complete our Request for Information form. Once received, our Apprenticeship Coordinator, will contact you to schedule a call.

We are looking to solidify12 apprentices for the next session. 12 apprentices will ensure proper enrollment processing and logistical planning for 2025 education classes.

As a valued member of the NYSTA community, your support and involvement are crucial to the success of this program. Whether you're interested in becoming a mentor, offering apprenticeship opportunities, or simply spreading the word, we deeply appreciate your contribution towards shaping the future of the turf industry.

Warm regards,

Tom Kaplun

NYSTA President
