Governor Hochul Announced more than $64.1 Million Awarded through Restore New York Communities Initiative. The projects will help increase the available housing stock in NYS and will spur new investments and stimulate economic growth. NYSEDC advocated to restore and maintain annual funding for this transformative program. | Click here for a full list of project awards across New York State.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) Board of Trustees approved economic development awards to 22 firms that will spur more than $200 million in capital investments and support 1,664 jobs throughout the state. The ReCharge NY power allocations and funding awards totaling more than $3 million to three firms in Western New York and one firm in the North Country. | Click here to see the full list of awards.

A coalition of more than 50 business, energy and labor organizations are calling on the NYS Governor's administration to conduct a comprehensive assessment of New York's impending mandates under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which are not on track to be met and could result in significant energy supply shortfalls and adverse impacts across numerous industries. | Read about the coalition and their request to the Governor's office at the Times Union.

The Suffolk County IDA has recently approved a transaction to support the development of the largest privately-owned, mixed-use sports and medical complex in the Tri-State Region. DestiNation KP will turn 44.5 acres of land into a state-of-the-art regional tourist destination for sporting events, camps and tournaments. The more than $92 million project is expected to create more than 100 permanent jobs while increasing tax revenue by attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors per year. | Read more on Newsday here.

Upstate Niagara Cooperative, a dairy company in Erie County, is planning a $150 million expansion in West Seneca to meet an "insatiable" demand for cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. The company will more than double its facility at 3300 North America Drive, with a 250,000-square-foot addition to its 222,851-square-foot warehouse. According to an application filed with the Erie County IDA, the cooperative already owns the vacant land. | Click here to read more

The Clarkson University Board of Trustees announced the appointment of David Heacock '83 as Acting President of the University. Heacock has had a distinguished career in industry, including top leadership positions at Texas Instruments where he led major business transformations. He also has extensive experience in the venture capital community, as well as service on not-for-profit boards and organizations. | Learn about the transition on North Country Now.

New York will launch an online portal next month for organizations to apply for grants from a $500 million fund designed to benefit communities surrounding Micron Technology Inc.’s planned semiconductor megafab in Clay. The portal will open Aug. 15. Groups interested in applying for a grant must first submit a letter of intent explaining how their projects would support investments in four categories: workforce development, education, community development and housing. | Click here to read more.

Empire State Development is seeking proposals for the purchase and redevelopment of an approximately 108-acre site located at 23147 Swan Road in Watertown, NY. The site was formerly the Waterdown Correctional Facility, and the site includes all of the facility's buildings and the immediately surrounding land. U.S. Department of Commerce Announces New $25 Million Good Jobs Challenge Notice of Funding Opportunity

The I.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Economic Development Administration announced a new Good Jobs Challenge funding notice targeted at creating jobs in critical industries like advanced energy, biotech, robotics, semiconductors and more, including jobs that do not require a 4 year degree.

How Colleges Can Become 'Living Labs' for Combating Climate Change

Over the past decade, a growing number of professors in fields as diverse as business, English and the performing arts have integrated their teaching with efforts to minimize their campuses' waste and emissions.


The Hechinger Report features SUNY New Paltz and Binghamton University and their "campus as a living lab" initiatives that are helping students learn about climate change and take actionable steps to combat it.

Office of NYS Comptroller Releases Economic & Policy Insights Regarding NYS's Clean Energy Fund


Review of Clean Energy Fund (CEF)-supported programs indicate some have exceeded the goals set out by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) while others appear not to be on track to reach their 2025 targets.

NYS Office of Community Renewal Launches Vacant Rental Improvement Program (V-RIP)


The V-RIP is a grant program funded by the State of New York and administered by the Housing Trust Fund Corporation's (HTFC) Office of Community Renewal (OCR) to support repairs and rehabilitation of vacant rental units and other vacant spaces to increase the supply of critically needed apartments for low- and moderate-income renters outside of New York City. The program aims to help owners of rental properties bring vacant units and spaces in small-scale properties back into productive use to create safe, quality, and affordable long-term rental units.

Enhancing the Interconnection Process: NYISO Commitment to Improving the Integration of New Generation Projects onto the Grid


The interconnection process requires significant coordination between utilities, developers, and state and local governments. NYISO leads this process, ensuring that projects can connect to the grid without harming the system or imposing undue costs on consumers.

On August 1, 2024, the NYISO will commence a new, transitional “Cluster Study” expediting the interconnection study process for developers consistent with regulatory reforms by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) under Order 2023.
