Dear NYHS Community,
My son, Ami, recently asked if we could change our bedtime routine. Bedtime used to include brushing teeth, reading a book (or 2 or 3), saying
Shema, and a silly song I made up when he was an infant about how much mommy loves him. A couple weeks ago, Ami asked if I would sing him some Hebrew songs also. So now, each night, singing songs has become part of our ritual.
One of our favorite songs begins with the following three words from Tehillim:
'טוב להודות לה – it is good,
tov, to praise Hashem. We use this song to celebrate another tradition we have in our family, highlights of the week (or day). This daily dinner and bedtime conversation allows us to pause, reflect, and share gratitude over the memories we have made, the gifts we have been given, and the experiences we should celebrate.
As we enter into the Thanksgiving weekend, I would like to use this space to share my gratitude and my highlight of the week. Last night, at Parent-Teacher Conferences, I was filled with gratitude towards the NYHS faculty and staff who give of themselves to create a school that cares about each and every student. Our incredible teachers dedicate themselves every day to educating our students, teaching them both in and out of the classroom, and being amazing role models for our community. Going above and beyond is their general state of being. It is inspiring to be a part of this team. Thank you.
Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving and Shabbat Shalom,
Malka Popper
