Recently the Division of School Facilities sent out an email detailing new procedures when requesting a fill in, submitting a Disciplinary Action Form and requesting snow emergency personnel through New York City School Support Services. Local 891 has "beta tested" the new procedure and has found it to have certain flaws.
The new system was designed to give Custodian Engineers the ability to contact available NYCSSS employees directly only if they wanted to. You are not required to contact any NYCSSS employee directly to get a replacement fill in.
We have discovered that you cannot get through the fill in request process without stating that you have tried to reach an available worker. We have brought this to DSF's attention, and they are working on correcting the situation.
In the meantime, if you require a fill in worker and you do not wish to contact the candidates directly, Local 891 recommends that you email NYCSSS directly with your request following the same timeline guidelines.
