The GEAR UP NV team will be gathering on November 6th, 8:00 - 12:00 for the NDE Fall Professional Development session. This session will be held on the CSN West Charleston Campus. More details and an agenda will be forthcoming.



Request for Proposals for NCCEP National Conference

July 21-24

NCEP has opened up the request for proposals for their upcoming national conference this July. The deadline to submit your proposal is December 15, 2023. For more information, visit: https://www.edpartnerships.org/annual

NSHE Team Building (Half) Day!

November 6th

12:00 - 5:00

Following the NDE training,

we have rescheduled the NSHE Team Building (Half) Day! We will be meeting in a conference room, also on the CSN West Charleston Campus. We will spend most of the time in a mental health professional development session featuring ASPIRE Director, Nicole Stella as the facilitator. Nicole is a certified facilitator for this particular program covering a much needed area of services for our students.

Welcome to a New Application Season!

Now that the fall term has started, one major activity is our college application season for seniors!! This means all of the NSHE institutions are working on events to assist students in completing their college admissions applications and if applying to one of Nevada's four community colleges, the Promise Scholarship too. Students can only apply for the Promise Scholarship during their senior year. The deadline is October 31st. Students should be sure to follow all the related admissions and scholarship deadlines as the year progresses!

If you are posting anything about these application events on social media, be sure to use #IAPPLIED.

Normally we would also be holding FAFSA Nights as well but as we all know, the FAFSA is delayed this year due to the redesign to a more streamlined version. Details on the exact release are still pending. If you are interested in finding out more about the new FAFSA, there are many trainings and information sessions available through NCAN, uAspire, Federal Student Aid, etc.

NSHE College and Scholarship Fairs!!!

We have concluded the NSHE institutions' introductory events, the NSHE College and Scholarship Fairs which were recently held in all of the GEAR UP high schools. These events are a lot of fun for both students and the GEAR UP staff. All together, we meet with hundreds of students helping them to understand what GEAR UP is, introducing them to GEAR UP events as well as the college options and some scholarship opportunities in Nevada. This gives them a chance to ask questions about those institutions and programs. We also give out GEAR UP branded items! Did you notice the backpack in the photo above!! It's awesome to see the GEAR UP presence all around the school!

This year at our featured tables for programs that help students pay for college, the Treasurer's Office, Promise Scholarship, the Public Education Foundation, and the Nevada Native American Fee Waiver Program were represented.

Alane is Retiring!

It can be very bittersweet when you are happy for someone but it is time to say "good-bye". GEAR UP Specialist at Clark High School, Alane McQueeney, will be retiring from her position by the end of the term. Alane has served the students of Clark County School District for over 20 years, the last couple of years with GEAR UP. We were so fortunate to have her on our team! She will be greatly missed!

Congratulations Alane! Keep smiling and enjoy your retirement! You've earned it!!
