VIP Program
When the new school year begins, GEAR UP Nevada will be implementing a new, exciting, and very different program within our current grant. This program, called the Virtual Instructional Program, or VIP, will be for any of our former middle school students that transitioned to a high school other than one of our GEAR UP high schools. This program will be completely online/virtual. Each month will feature a different theme with corresponding modules that will cover the various GEAR UP services. Students will be able to access it through Canvas. An additional benefit will be that our virtual students will also be invited to any of our in-person events at our GEAR UP schools.

Mineral County Spring Events!
Along with campus tours, our GEAR UP students in Mineral County were able to enjoy some other fun activities before wrapping up the school year! Hawthorne Junior High School 8th graders were able to attend the Reno Aces Education Day, where they were able to do STEM activities, use digital workbooks, receive player baseball cards, enjoy lunch, and watch a baseball game all in the same place! Then, at Mineral County High School, students were able to participate in the Bite of Reality program, learning about proper spending and budgeting habits, sponsored by the credit union. Lastly, Mineral County held their 8th & 12 grade bridge events simultaneously in different locations on May 9th & 10th. These events were held all day following the bell schedule, but had different tracks like a conference: one on careers and one on colleges. Although some unexpected challenges arose, it was still a great time with amazing support from Paradigm Shift and the GEAR UP team. Great job to Kristy Bekiares and team for all of the amazing fun happening in the north!
