NV GEAR UP Adds Two New CCSD High Schools!!
We are pleased to announce the addition of two new CCSD high schools to the GEAR UP family this coming year! They are Durango High School and Clark High School. In both cases, we will be serving the 9th through 12th grades. In other words, the whole school!

Durango High School has approximately 2300 students. If you want to know more about Durango, check out their website at: https://www.durangohighschool.net/.

Clark is a large high school with over 3500 students. You can learn more about Clark at: https://www.clarkchargers.org/.
In addition to the new schools, we will also continue with a virtual stand alone school that will provide virtual services to students throughout the state. If you are counting, that brings the number of students Nevada GEAR UP will serve this coming year to over 12000. That is not a typo! In servicing that many students and families, Nevada GEAR UP will make a huge impact in the lives of our students, families, and communities!
Welcome Tanya!

Last week we welcomed Tanya Smith to the GEAR UP family! Tanya will be the First Year College Advisor at NSC in Henderson!

Tanya is a first generation, non-traditional student that recently graduated from NSC with her bachelor's in psychology. Tanya wants to help students navigate their way to and through higher education.

We are happy to have you on the team Tanya!!

UNLV Virtual Summer STEM Camp is Underway!
We are pleased that GEAR UP was able to provide a module of the UNLV Summer STEM Camp for 39 middle and high school GEAR UP students. The camp kicked off on July 5th and runs through July 30th. There are four modules, each one lasting two weeks. The modules are: Coding; Internet of Things; Climate Change and the Environment; and Mathematical Reasoning and Modeling. Students got to pick which module they wanted to attend. We have students in each module although Coding was by far the most popular choice.

In addition to the module, participating GEAR UP students will be able to attend exclusive career exploration sessions that include free college and career resources and a visit with UNLV STEM Academic Advisors from the UNLV College of Engineering; College of Sciences, College of Fine Arts, and the Division of Health Sciences.
