Professor Jane Cross presented on a transactional law panel at the 2016 SALT Teaching Conference on October 1, 2016 at John Marshall Law School in Chicago.  Her panel was entitled "Stranger Things? Teaching Social Justice in the Transactional Curriculum." The title of her talk was "Teaching Social Justice in Commercial Law: The Unbanked and Underbanked Population."

Professor Debra Moss Curtis accepted an offer of publication for her latest article, No Shots, No School, No Kidding: The Legal Profession Needs a Vaccine to Prevent Unprofessionalism, to be published in 28 U. Fla. J.L. & Pub. Pol'y ____ (2017).

Professor Olympia Duhart hosted a roundtable discussion at Elon University School of Law Sept. 6 as part of the Women in the Law podcast series to launch this fall. This podcast mini-series will advance the conversation on the many challenges, both professional and personal, that women continue to face as members of the legal profession.  Duhart is producer for an episode on Women Lawyers in the Media. Professor Duhart presented at the 2016 SALT Teaching Conference Sept. 30 at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Her talk was entitled "Important and Different Ways to Promote Diversity in the Law School Classroom," which offered concrete examples of how to integrate diversity initiatives in the law school classroom and community. Professor Duhart also presented a second panel the SALT Conference, "Social Justice Begins at Home: The Pursuit of Full Citizenship for All Members of the Legal Academy." This panel presented the findings of the LWI Professional Status Committee and made a case for extending protections to members of the legal writing community.

Professor Joel Mintz  accepted an invitation to be a featured speaker at a U.S. Department of Justice conference on "The Future of Environmental Law" in early November, in Washington, D.C. His presentation will focus on "The Future of Environmental Civil Enforcement;" Mintz was quoted directly and repeatedly cited in a 26-page minority report that presented the dissenting views of the Democratic members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee regarding the proposed "Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2016." Last spring, he had submitted written testimony to the Committee pointing out a number of flaws in this bill. If passed and signed by the president, it will establish sweeping changes in the civil enforcement practices of most federal agencies and departments. Mintz submitted a 50-page annual update to his treatise, State and Local Government Environmental Liability (Thomson/West Publishing. 1994). (Publication is expected in October.). Mintz attended the annual SEALS Conference on Amelia Island, where he made a presentation on "How to Prepare to Teach a New Course" in a panel session for "newer law teachers;" and represented NSU Law at the SEALS Steering Committee luncheon meeting. He shared a number of practical problems, drafted and submitted by practicing environmental lawyers from around the United States, that were based on their first hand experiences as practitioners. He is in the process of sorting through, selecting, and editing these problems for inclusion in our forthcoming casebook, A Practical Introduction to Environmental Law. Mintz had a conversation with a reporter for U.S. News and World Report regarding the impact of lawsuits challenging EPA regulations (including recent climate change-related regulations) on the workloads of EPA and Justice Department attorneys and spoke at length with a staff attorney with Public Integrity, a Washington, D.C.-based NGO, on how best to assess how effectively individual state environmental protection agencies are performing their enforcement responsibilities.
