The Big Thank You

Every year, students and administration gather to honor scholarship donors at The Big Thank You Luncheon. Life-changing scholarships help enable deserving students to achieve their undergraduate and graduate degrees. At this year's event, attendees had the opportunity to explore interactive donor kiosks, including hands-on displays that provided information about a few donors and scholarship recipients.

This list of current (as of April 5, 2024) donor-funded scholarships celebrates NSU’s partners in preeminence who have helped NSU provide meaningful scholarships to NSU undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Thank you!

PROGRAM Highlight | 2024 Colen Family Summit on Human Dignity

At the 2024 Colen Family Summit on Human Dignity, students from NSU University School focused on the issue of sustainability. The weeklong effort included field trips, workshops, guest speakers, and the opportunity for students to pitch their own business ideas for sustainable products and ventures. The event was made possible by a generous donation from James and Lisa Colen.

"Students are trying to help create a footprint that will have better habits for sustainability," said Jaimie Crawford, M.Ed., director of the Upper School, NSU University School.

IN-SIGHT Think Tank

A myriad of daunting challenges face today’s businesses and organizations. Perspectives grounded in humanities—history, politics, literature, gender studies, and religion—can provide unique solutions for issues that seem to be financial, scientific, or technological.

IN-SIGHT, an undergraduate student think tank in the NSU Center for Applied Humanities, works with businesses and community organizations to examine root causes and provide humanities-based solutions. Over the course of two semesters, IN-SIGHT fellows, under the direction of a designated faculty member, tackle a real-world problem put forth by a sponsoring organization, institution, or business. A goal for the project is established, and the fellows produce and present a white paper outlining solutions to the problem.

To sponsor the IN-SIGHT program, contact Halmos College of Arts and Sciences professor Marlisa Santos, Ph.D., at santosm@nova.edu.

GIVING Opportunities

One NSU: Days of Giving | April 24-25

As part of our ongoing efforts to support NSU Sharks, we invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact by becoming a changemaker. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps advance our mission of becoming preeminent. The Biology Student Award was inspired and initiated by former NSU faculty member and administrator Naomi D’Alessio, Ph.D., to support and encourage scholarly excellence in biology. She also served as a board member of the Grassy Waters Conservancy, funding a summer program for inner-city children aimed at teaching them to respect, appreciate, and preserve the natural environment.

D'Alessio passed away in March of this year, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship, advocacy, leadership, and kindness.
