North San Antonio Chamber Members and Partners,

We are excited to kick off this new year and are committed to working with our members, partners, and local, state, and federal leaders to strengthen our business community, economy, and workforce.

We are pleased to introduce the North San Antonio Chamber, 2023 Chairman of the Board, Danny Zimmermann, PE. Danny is Principal and co-founder of Cleary Zimmermann Engineers and leads the firm’s business and financial affairs, strategic business development initiatives, marketing, accounting, legal, IT, and firm operations.

As a Principal-in-Charge and Project Manager, Danny provides design and executive oversight for a wide array of projects, including academic facilities, hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics; clinical and research laboratories, retirement communities; and public and private facilities. Danny earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas.

Danny is active in his local community and volunteers his time to numerous philanthropic organizations. He presently chairs the Texas A&M University-San Antonio Foundation Board and is past president of the Comal Education Foundation. Along with his wife, April, Danny is a certified Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) serving as a voice for abused children in court. He is also past president and director of the UTSA Alumni Association Board and has served in many other community service capacities throughout his career.

In his role as Chairman, Danny's first priority is serving as host for the North SA Chamber’s 49th Annual Gala where the theme will take us all back to our 80s Remix days … or, most of us anyway! This will be such an exciting event and we’re almost sold out!

Danny's other big plans and initiatives include:

  • Planning and preparations for the big 2024 50th Anniversary Celebration with 2024 Chair-Elect, Joe Irizarry (Raba Kistner)
  • Comprehensive Strategic Review and Market Perception Study—Assessment of North SA Chamber governance and structure, including a formal survey of members, stakeholders, and the public to help assess the Chamber’s effectiveness
  • Carry forward a strong advocacy agenda at the local, state, and federal level

We would also like to thank our 2022 Chairwoman of the Board, Melody Tomsu, Director of Client and Community Engagement at Joeris General Contractors, LLC.

As a long-time NSAC member, Melodye stepped into her role as Chairwoman and gave it her all and more, demonstrating true leadership.

Melodye's Board achievements include her beautiful Costa Rican-themed 2022 Gala, the inaugural Civic Leadership Academy, and a successful, first-ever Cyber Security Conference. But even more notably, Melodye committed to helping raise funds for the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas to help support the families of the children and teachers who lost their lives at the Robb Elementary tragedy on May 24, 2022. Melodye fortified the Chamber’s longevity to continue to serve its' members into 2023 and beyond and to grow and move us forward exponentially.

And now, we want to take a moment to welcome and give our appreciation to our newly appointed Board of Directors and Executive Council for their partnership and commitment to the North SA Chamber in adding value and serving our members and stakeholders throughout 2023. (Full list of Directors)

Get your 80s on because we cannot wait to see you at the 2023 Gala. This will be an exciting year for all of us. We look forward to your continued partnership and to serving you in 2023.

Texas Leads the Nation for Job Creation

Texas Added More Jobs In 2022 Than Any Other State, Growing Jobs At The Fastest Rate In The Nation

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today congratulated Texans and Texas employers for helping make Texas the national leader in job creation, following the December employment release from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) showing Texas led all states for job creation in 2022. Texas added 650,100 nonfarm jobs over the year and grew jobs at 5.0%, the fastest rate in the nation.

“It is no surprise that Texas leads the nation for job creation, adding more jobs in 2022 and growing at a faster rate than any other state,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “Freed from the burden of over-taxation and the stranglehold of over-regulation, businesses continue to invest in Texas and in the best workforce in America. As a result, more Texans are working than ever before, putting even more Texas families on the path to prosperity. Texas works when Texans work, and in this legislative session, we will continue expanding opportunity and ensuring Texas remains the best state to live, work, build a business, and raise a family.”

Today’s BLS employment release follows the Governor’s announcement on Friday celebrating Texas again surpassing its all-time record for total jobs in December for the 14th consecutive month. With employers adding 29,500 nonfarm jobs in December and more than 650,000 added over the year, total jobs in Texas reached a new high of 13,705,500 at year-end.

Governor Abbott Announces New Category For Texas

AUSTIN ─ Governor Greg Abbott today announced a new application category opening for the Texas Travel Industry Recovery Grant (TTIR) program through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism, beginning February 1. The TTIR program provides one-time grants of up to $20,000 for the recovery of Texas businesses in the tourism, travel, and hospitality industry that were negatively impacted during the pandemic.

“Travel and tourism are critical to both the Texas economy and local economies, supporting one in 10 jobs in Texas,” said Governor Abbott. “All eligible tourism-related businesses in Texas are strongly encouraged to apply for this grant program. While direct travel spending in Texas is recovering at a faster rate than national averages, we continue supporting Texas businesses as they grow and expand. Visitor spending at Texas destinations brings more revenue into communities and spurs local job creation across industries in every region of our state.
