NRC FirstLook 2021 continues January 13th, REGISTER TODAY!

On January 6, 2021, Mr. James A. Squires, Chairman and CEO of Norfolk Southern Corp., joined us to kick-off NRC FirstLook 2021 as our live Fireside Chat webcast keynote executive. The webcast was hosted by NRC Chairman Jim Hansen, Chief Commercial Officer at Herzog, and NRC Vice Chairman Steve Bolte, Vice President of Business Development North America at Danella (group pictured left).

The event featured a terrific conversation amongst the hosts, followed by a great Q&A session. The group discussed a variety of topics throughout the chat, including challenges faced in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, an industry outlook for 2021 for the network, and how NRC members can help support and partner with Class I railroads. A link of the presentation will be made available for registered attendees this month and will be sent to the email on file for the registration. If you have any questions about the Fireside Chat or the rest of the program, please email NRC staff at info@nrcma.org or click here to see the full NRC FirstLook 2021 program and agenda.

NRC 2020 Special Award Winners Announced

Railroad Construction Co. Wins NRC Large Project of the Year
The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) has awarded the Railroad Construction Company, Inc. (RCC) with Large Project of the Year for its work on the $108-million Mid-Suffolk Electric yard project on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in Ronkonkoma, New York. The design-build project is part of the multi-billion-dollar LIRR Enhancement that will provide additional space to store, maintain, inspect, service and clean electric train cars.

GeoStabilization International Wins NRC Small Project of the Year
The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) has awarded GeoStabilization International (GSI) with Small Project of the Year for its work on Union Pacific’s Mankato $2.8-million, 90.5 Permanent Landslide Repair project. When heavy rainfall saturated the soil along the hillside above Union Pacific railroad tracks near Mankato, Minnesota, the consequences were far greater than simply a landslide. Century-old graves in Minneopa Cemetery were positioned precariously along the failing hillside. Union Pacific called in GSI and engineering and design firm Olsson Associates for the emergency project.

Herzog’s Mickey Tomlin Wins NRC Field Employee of the Year
The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) has awarded its Field Employee of the Year to Herzog Vice President of Field Operations Mickey Tomlin. Mickey has been a champion of the railroad industry throughout his 41-year career, beginning in 1979 as a crewman with BNSF Railway and continuing into his current role as a leader on the signals and communications team with Herzog. “Mickey is a self-taught signal engineer whose knowledge has far surpassed his two-year apprentice training,” noted Herzog Senior Vice President of Central/East Regions Scott Norman in his award nomination.
