Dear NPWH Community,
Reproductive healthcare is being politicized and attacked. The past two weeks have brought devastating news in the NPWH clinical and advocacy priority area of Reproductive Healthcare.
Arizona will be enacting a total abortion ban and reinstating a 1800s law. Additionally, Florida has implemented a 6-week abortion ban. However, Florida courts also approved a November ballot initiative that, if approved, would overturn the six-week ban and enshrine broad abortion access in the state's constitution. Furthermore, this week, Idaho has enacted a ban which obstructs transgender-affirming care for adolescents.
These laws not only restrict access to healthcare but also inflict harm. NPWH has been collaborating with other healthcare associations and the Center for Reproductive Rights to sign on to amicus briefs and letters, and take a stand against these bans. We will continue advocating for patients' right to access healthcare and for healthcare providers to have the ability to provide care without fear of penalty or prosecution.
THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS! This month is volunteer appreciation month. I wish to thank our Board of Directors, all of the chairs and co-chairs of our committees, the members of our committees and anyone who has ever served in a volunteer capacity for NPWH. Your contributions make a profound difference in our organization and in the lives of our patients, and support other women's healthcare providers. We are incredibly thankful for your invaluable service.
The inaugural Menopause Summit for Advanced Practice Providers course has concluded, and what an incredible response from the NPWH community! With more than 700 registrants, we are thrilled by the enthusiastic participation. You can still register and take the course on-demand until July 7.
Post-event comments from the Menopause Summit attendees include:
"Well presented program that reinforced my current knowledge and
presented new ways for me to discuss menopausal treatment with my patients."
"This is one of the best conferences I had attended in a long time.
Very evidence based!"
"Overall, this was an excellent course! It was well worth my time and CE monies. The overall layout of the presentations illustrated a whole picture of menopause by the end of the summit. I would recommend this summit to others! Thank you!"
Thank you to the planning committee and speakers.
I extend my gratitude to the planning committee for crafting a robust, evidence-based course enriched with compelling case studies. I also want to express appreciation to our lineup of esteemed speakers, all certified practitioners by the Menopause Society (formerly NAMS certification).

NPWH Supports the ANA Denouncing Racism in Nursing
NPWH, an organization affiliate of The American Nurses Association, fully aligns and supports ANA's response to a racist commentary by a white nursing student and pledges to uphold the ANA Code of Ethics.
“Our profession recognizes the need to grow in diversity and dismantle racism, discrimination, and other barriers to education and career paths for professionals from underrepresented and marginalized groups. We work together with others to expand opportunities and promote diversity within the WHNP professional community,” NPWH Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Commitment Statement.
SILVER SPRING, MD – The American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Indiana State Nurses Association (ISNA) are deeply disturbed by the racist commentary of a white nursing student at Indiana State University posted recently to a video on Yik Yak. The commentary in the video is offensive and completely unacceptable and does not align with the professional values and standards of nursing. The inaccurate, dehumanizing, and insensitive remarks made about the horrific, colonizing institution of slavery are hurtful to students, faculty, and the community-at-large.
This incident underscores an urgent call-to-action for all academic and healthcare institutions to adopt and aggressively maintain diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) education and programming, including how history is taught. Nursing Schools are accountable and obligated to educate the next generation of nurses by establishing and enforcing antiracism and DEIB programs, in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
ANA and ISNA strongly urge ISU and the School of Nursing to take appropriate and swift action to protect their students, faculty, and future patients who could be harmed by their graduates who have visible and documented racist ideology and belief systems. ISU must fully leverage this moment to exemplify accountability and the highest ideals of learning and education. This must include addressing biases, prejudices, and racist beliefs, an action that is paramount in rooting out and dismantling racism in nursing now, and in the future.

A Resource for the Legal Landscape for
Miscarriage and Abortion Care
|
The Center for Reproductive Rights, who NPWH works closely with, along with many of the other leading reproductive rights legal organizations that are working together as part of the Abortion Defense Network, have created state specific “Know Your Rights” guides for medical providers. These guides are intended to explain the legal landscape for miscarriage and abortion care in the states with the most confusing laws in a format that we hope is most helpful to medical professionals in the hospital setting and elsewhere.

NPWH is Moving to a New Journal Publisher! |
Exciting news! This year marks a significant milestone as NPWH transitions to a new journal publisher. With this change comes a fresh identity with a new name and a new look for the official journal of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. More details forthcoming.
Rest assured, our commitment to delivering timely, relevant, and evidence-based information remains unwavering. Members can anticipate a continued focus on topics crucial to women’s health nurse practitioners and other advanced practice registered nurses dedicated to women's and gender-related healthcare.
While there will be a brief pause in publication during the transition, we assure you that we will promptly catch up on any delayed articles, including those offering free continuing education opportunities for our members.
As we bid farewell to Women's Healthcare: A Clinical Journal for NPs in its role as the official journal of NPWH under HealthCom Media, we invite you to explore the final issue published online in February 2024.
Click here to access articles published in the February 2024 issue and other past issues.
