Hello Everyone,

 

Can you believe August is already here? School is back on August 26 so please take advantage of the open parking on the streets for this last month.

Although summer is starting to wind down, we have more fun in store. 


First up is a last minute Passport Meal featuring Indian Cuisine on Thursday, August 1. This will be folllowed up with a Nigerian inspired meal on Thursday, August 8. We encourage you to come & try these dishes. Seating at 11:45, lunch served at 12pm. 


On Tuesday, August 27 we welcome back the SOS Ensemble with some lunchtime entertainment at 12pm. We will have limited lunches so please tell us in advance if you would like lunch that day otherwise all are welcome to enjoy the show.


Our mini Monday morning Farmers Market has been a huge success. We will continue as long as we are able. If you haven't checked it out, the market "opens" at 9:30am with various fruits, vegetables, breads & etc. All from Whole Foods. No charge. Just know you must use within a day or two. We are also happy to have Knitting & Crocheting back on the calendar as well. Join us in the library Mondays at 10am.


Book Club meets Thursday, August 22 to discuss The Violin Conspiracy and we have an additional week of Laughter Yoga being introduced to our monthly activity schedule. 8/14 & 8/28 with Josephine and 8/21 with Phillip.  Additionally, Linda Horwitz is back with another sewing day for Little Dresses for Africa on Wednesday, 8/28 from 8:30-3pm. 

 

In other news, Senior Swim at the Norwood Park pool is starting August 5. It will be Mon-Fri. from 11:15-12:30PM. Check with the Park District with any questions. Also in the park, Tuesday, August 6 is National Night Out from 5-8pm. Join us for this fun, neighborhood event. Details attached.

 

Michele Crump will be back on zoom & in person starting the week of 8/12. Until then, please use her recorded class in the link below. Sherri is subbing for all in person classes.

Please remember her classes, as well as using the fitness room, constitue the Fitness Program which has a fee of $16 for six months or $30 for the year. 

 

Upcoming in September we will be celebrating Senior Center month. Dates to keep in mind include Thursday, September 12, which is the Chicago Senior Expo downtown in Millenium Park. We will have a bus. Please see the sign up sheet on the counter if interested. Space will be limited. 


We also have our 15 year Anniversary being celebrated on Thursday, September 19. More to come on that as well. In addition, our Flu & Vaccination Clinic is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 27 which will include a Senior Resource Fair. More to come once confimed.

 

Finally, We will be closed on Monday, September 2 for Labor Day.

 

I'd like to give an extra special shout out to all our Summer Appeal donors. We raised over $6000 which made a beautiful flower garden on the wall as you enter the Center! Thank you so much. Donation tax letters are at the front desk. Please stop by to pick one up if you haven't received already. 

Our next Appeal will happen over the holidays starting with Giving Tuesday December 3.
