Caldwell High School Students at Idaho Public Television

We hosted more than 30 students from Canyon Springs High School in Caldwell, led by media teacher Chad Lawson, at the Idaho Public Television station in Boise in October and early November.

Production Manager Aaron Kunz and Producer Mya Long showed students around our production department, teaching them about cameras, lighting, and the process of shooting and editing video.

We look forward to mentoring students in the classroom and sharing their work online as part of the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs program.

We encourage Idaho junior and high school teachers to use the free Student Reporting Labs curriculum, join the Youth Media Challenges, and incorporate the brand-new NOVA Science Studio science journalism curriculum into their classrooms.

We are here to provide resources and help! Contact us for more information.

New Resource for Parents and Caregivers

The Idaho State Department of Education has created the new Parent Corner website, which features a variety of practical information tailored to parents, including parents’ rights, the Empowering Parents Program and more.

Also included are resources for families of early learners from Idaho Public Television.

Our IdahoPTV for Parents website includes series and episode information, including notes on any episodes that include topics of adoption, military families, families with a single parent or same-sex parents, racial inclusion and ethnic diversity, perseverance and problem-solving, computational thinking, exploration, cultural awareness and geography, autism, or physical disabilities. Review program descriptions, and watch with your kids, using our discussion questions, learning goals, games, and activities to make learning fun.

Communities

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has awarded IdahoPTV Education a second Ready to Learn grant, which will allow us to create an innovative model of community engagement called a Learning Neighborhood in Potlatch, Idaho.

The primary goals of IdahoPTV’s work in Potlatch and the surrounding area are to provide enriching, educational opportunities to local families through community partnerships that honor the culture and specific needs as well as to create a sustainable and replicable model for continued engagement and support in the community.

In the Community: Caldwell, Mountain Home, Weiser

Education Specialists Brady Kissel and Ashley Marotz had a blast at trunk-or-treat events in Caldwell and Mountain Home in October. Ashley led a storytime in Weiser, and the kids used their creativity to make sock puppets!
