What Neighbors Should Expect:
Neighbors in close proximity of the Old Dominion Drive Bridge may experience nighttime construction impacts, the most prominent being:
- Noise from trucks and cranes as the girders are delivered and off-loaded.
- Noise from cranes as they pick up, move and place the girders.
- Noise from vehicle back-up alarms (required for safety reasons).
- Light pollution from light towers that enable crews to perform work efficiently and safely.
Following girder emplacement, crews will install deck pans (which hold in place poured concrete) and steel rebar, then place concrete to form the deck of the new bridge. The project will progress the adjoining Old Dominion Drive roadway to align with the new bridge. Traffic is planned to be switched onto the new bridge this fall, with demolition of the old bridge to follow.
