September: A Month to Remember - NMCUSD's Commitment to Suicide Prevention Awareness
Suicide is preventable. As we honor Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month this September, North Monterey County Unified School District is steadfast in our commitment to share this vital message with our community. Our educational community is dedicated to supporting students who may grapple with the burdens of stress, anxiety, and depression.
We believe it is crucial for both our students and their families to be well-informed about the warning signs of suicide, have a clear understanding of what suicide entails, and, most importantly, be aware of the life-saving resources available.
In an effort to provide comprehensive support, North Monterey County USD is proud to collaborate with the Family Service Agency of the Central Coast, who will be conducting a powerful presentation at the Suicide Prevention Symposium today, Tuesday, September 5, 2023. This event is open to the public and completely free of charge, offering not only valuable insights but also refreshments and additional support services.
We extend an open invitation to everyone in our community to join us in this important initiative, as together we can make a difference and save lives.

Farewell Message from Superintendent Kari Yeater
Dear NMCUSD Family,
It is with the utmost sincerity that I wish the very best to each member of the NMCUSD Family as you work together to ensure each student is heard, seen and feels loved and cared for. Our students will develop the confidence and knowledge to navigate their future that is yet unknown and as we know from our recent years of responding to rapid change and having to pivot quickly, these experiences will prepare us for the unknown future. Change can and does feel overwhelming, as I feel that myself as I move forward in a new phase in my life, but I believe there are very wise, experienced and caring people who walk with us and this makes all of the difference. Our students have a bright future ahead of them because they have a NMCUSD Family who can and will support each other. Thank you all for the days you made brighter, it has been the greatest honor and privilege to work side by side with all of you.
With gratitude and best wishes for a bright future,
Kari Yeater

Thank You to Our College & Career Center Paving the Way for Student Success!
A huge shoutout and heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at the College & Career Center! Who have launched this year with an absolute whirlwind of activity, and it's nothing short of amazing.
Their Dual Enrollment Courses in collaboration with Gavilan College have taken off, drawing in a remarkable group of enthusiastic students eager to kickstart their college journeys. These courses cover subjects like child development and computer forensics, all while providing the opportunity to earn college credits for free.
The College & Career Team does not stop there! Their first financial aid workshop for 12th-grade students and their families was a tremendous success. They offered crucial insights into the FAFSA and the CA Dream Act, and have been instrumental in helping families set up their financial aid accounts. The fact that over 30 families eagerly participated in the workshop speaks volumes about the essential resources they are providing.
Last but not least, a massive shoutout to our dedicated SkillsUSA Chapter. Their "Trade Tuesdays" initiative is nothing short of innovative brilliance. Each Tuesday, they are empowering our students with information about various trades, including salary details and career growth prospects.
Thank you, College & Career Center team, for your unwavering dedication and the fantastic work you do. You're shaping futures, and we couldn't be more grateful for all that you do!
