NMCIA Board Actions Aug. 14, 2024

  • Appointed Eddy County Manager Roberta Gonzales to the southeast geographic director position
  • Acknowledged receipt of the NMCIA 2024 financial audit which received an unmodified opinion, the highest rating an audit can receive
  • Discussed hiring an investment consultant and granted authority to Risk Management Director Grace Philips to negotiate a contract up to $60,000
  • Appointed Valencia Deputy County Manager Jhonathan Aragon to the strategic planning committee that will meet to develop the Board’s October 24 retreat agenda

The Board welcomed several Roosevelt County officials to the meeting held at the Jake Lopez Community Center: District II Commissioner Rodney Savage, newly hired Deputy County Manager Laura Thompson and County Manager Annette Kirk whose first day was two days prior to the meeting. The Board appreciates their interest in NMCIA’s operations and for hosting the meeting in Roosevelt County.

40-Hour Instructor Development Training

County employees attended the 40-hour instructor development course in Albuquerque from Roosevelt, Los Alamos, Bernalillo, Luna, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Guadalupe, San Miguel, McKinley, Torrance, Socorro, San Juan, and Union Counties. Good job!

NMC President on the Move

NMC President Curry County Clerk Annie Hogland attended the NMML 67th Annual Conference in Clovis. She presented the 2025 NMC legislative priorities and stressed the importance of county and municipal leaders working together to strengthen local governments.

NM Legislative Finance Committee

Lincoln County, municipal officials, and NM LFC members toured areas affected by the recent wildfires and flooding. Legislators, state agencies, and local leaders discussed the ongoing disaster response and the need for continued emergency relief funding. Flooding devastation and debris brought horse racing, a major economic driver, to an abrupt halt at the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.

NM Environment Dept. Pilot Program

NMED announces a pilot Liquid Waste Assistance Fund to help low-income householders to repair, replace, or decommission failing septic systems. Those who qualify for HUD assistance are eligible. Twelve households will be awarded statewide (4 from each of 3 regions) on a first-come, first served basis. Systems must present a threat to health or environment to qualify. the application window opens Sept. 2, 2024.
