Certificate opportunity for NIC faculty and staff
The University of South Florida Muma College of Business has invited North Idaho College faculty and staff to a free, seven-week certificate program, sponsored by the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jabil, that will focus on ways organizations can create a more diverse workplace as well as address equity issues and foster inclusivity.

The certificate program begins March 24 and runs through May 5. It consists of seven two-hour modules, aired live on Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. ET (but participants have two weeks to view the recorded sessions).

Those who successfully complete the program will receive a digital certificate as well as a Credly badge that can be displayed on LinkedIn. The certificate program also qualifies for 1.4 CEUs from the University of South Florida.

Participants will learn how building and growing a workforce that includes differing races, religions, ages, genders and sexual orientations, and persons with disabilities can not only improve broad society issues but can also help companies develop novel business practices, increase revenue, and improve performance. While the certificate is well-suited for human resources professionals and C-suite leaders, organizers designed the program for people across levels and across industries.

While the program is free, advance registration is required. Register by March 24.
The NIC Teaching & Learning Center and NIC Diversity Council would like to invite you to two Monday morning strategizing sessions to discuss the topics covered in the webinar series on April 5 and April 19, as well as a full follow-up session (date to be determined) once the course has completed.

Are you interested in joining the strategizing sessions? Send TLC@nic.edu an email and get on the RSVP list.

Call for adjunct faculty to take survey
Participation for part-time faculty only

Dear Adjunct Faculty,

My name is Nikole King and I am an adjunct instructor in English. Faculty Assembly recently asked me to serve as your adjunct liaison. In this new role, I've been asked to find ways to encourage more adjunct faculty engagement. To that end, I've created a survey to gauge current levels of involvement and support and to solicit ideas for ways to improve involvement and support.

Please feel free to skip any questions that do not pertain to you. A partially completed survey is better than no response at all. Your response is voluntary, confidential, and kindly requested by March 26

Thank you for taking the time to help improve our NIC community!

Nominations sought for faculty awards

It is time to consider full-time instructors and librarians for the NIC Foundation Faculty Achievement Award and part-time faculty for the Adjunct Faculty Achievement Award.

The full-time awards given to a faculty member or librarian may vary from $500 to $1,500. Instructors must be full-time and have been involved in NIC classroom instruction for four or more years. The award is given based upon classroom effectiveness, dependability in meeting contractual obligations, and professional growth. For librarians, the criteria include exemplary library service to students and the NIC campus.
The adjunct award is $500 for one faculty member. Adjunct instructors qualify for the award during their fifth consecutive semester (including summer) and must teach at least six semester credits or the equivalent. Adjunct faculty will be judged on teaching effectiveness and contributions to the community. More information about the adjunct faculty award can be found here (insert link).
All awards will be announced at Commencement on May 14. Please make sure nomination letters are submitted to the Vice President for Instruction's Office (Molstead Library 252) no later than Friday, April 2.

Career Workshops for Students

Career Services is offering a variety of Zoom workshops to our students to help them feel more confident in their career path. They are all FREE, thanks in part to a generous grant from the North Idaho College Foundation.

For descriptions and workshop sign-ups go to www.nic.edu/career and choose either Career Goals Workshops, MicroSKILLS Workshops, or MyACT Workshops. It’s a best practice to use at least two tools to choose and verify something as important as a career path, so here students can choose those that best suit their needs.Every workshop includes career counseling by qualified staff. Workshop dates and times are:

  • Career Goals Workshops             March 24      10 a.m. to noon
  • MyACT                                         April 5          Noon to 2 p.m.

Each workshop is limited to 20 students, so please encourage your students to sign up soon for the best availability of times and dates that suit them.
