Summer work schedule options for staff

NIC supports employees in balancing their personal lives with their work commitments. In support of this balance, we are encouraging alternate summer work schedules for staff, where the department can support them.

Earlier this year the policy and procedure on Alternate Work Schedules were updated, supporting schedule flexibility.

While alternate work schedules can be worked year-round, a lighter student presence during the summer may allow for greater flexibility, while still providing a high-quality student experience and supporting educational opportunities. Summer alternate schedule options are intended to provide employees in staff positions more opportunity to take advantage of longer daylight hours, warmer weather and summer breaks for students of all ages.

More details are available in the Alternate Work Schedules Guideline on the HR portal. Interested employees should discuss options with their supervisor.

Work-study supervisor training sessions scheduled

Hire a work-study student!

Does your department need extra help? Do you have an opportunity that will give a student valuable educational experience that can be added to their resume and put money in their pocket to help with additional expenses?

Are you a faculty member that needs to hire a teacher’s assistant?

All staff and faculty can be eligible to hire a work-study student in their office or department once the annual supervisor training has been completed.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, there are many changes and updates to the program. To learn about the program, re-up your knowledge and become authorized to hire, please join one of the training sessions.

Each session is scheduled for two hours to allow for discussion, if necessary.

Additional training sessions will be scheduled for September as needed. Watch for future NICNow announcements.

Zoom training options are available for those unable to attend in-person training.

For more information, contact Financial Aid Advisor JT Thompson at jt.thompson@nic.edu or (208) 676-7214

FY2023 Procurement and purchasing close

The end of the fiscal year 2023 is approaching and it is once again time to start planning for any remaining purchasing and expenditure activities.

These deadlines have been established according to North Idaho College’s internal processing requirements and to facilitate a timely year-end close and preparation of annual financial reports.

Planning should be made now to anticipate needs between May 25 and June 30 to ensure procurement of those needs occurs before the May 24 procurement close deadline

View all purchasing deadlines here.

Temporary increase to the FY23 vacation cap

With several vacancies throughout the college, the administration understands that taking vacation time to utilize high balances by June 18 may be more difficult.

To give employees additional time and flexibility to utilize these balances, NIC will be temporarily increasing the vacation cap from 240 to 280 hours for FY23.

Employees will have until June 30, 2024 to utilize vacation and bring their balance below 240 hours. Any hours over 240 at the end of FY24, including hours the employee will accrue on the June 30, 2024 pay period, will be forfeited.

Vacation is well-deserved time for employees to recharge away from work. We encourage all employees to proactively schedule vacation time. Please work with your supervisor now to create a plan that will bring your vacation balance below 240 hours by June 30, 2024.

For more information, contact NIC Finance Manager – Payroll Accounting Josh Gittel at josh.gittel@nic.eddu or (208) 769-4397.
